Hope, Idaho artist David Scherb fine art oil paintings

Award winning painter David Scherb shares his fine art landscapes online

David has been an Idaho resident since 1980. For David drawing in pencil, ink, and crayon was a source of personal enjoyment from early childhood. The focus on oil painting developed during his military experience on Post at Fort Hood, Texas. At every opportunity he practiced and began learning about the history of oil painting and its evolvement. David concentrated study of the techniques and painterly style of art historically reminiscent of the Dutch and Flemish painters as well as the Hudson River School of artists has driven his creative energies.

Sunset in Venice

Inspiration in this self-taught process has been aided by the study of technical literature and trips abroad and visits to our National Parks. Also, since moving to North Idaho in 1980 and living on Lake Pend Oreille, the expansive beauty has perpetuated his desire to try and rival nature in a two-dimensional medium.

Both originals and Giclees of David Scherb are available for purchase at

Bring out your artistic visions, it is time to collect driftwood!

A tree, its pieces cast aside by nature, polished smooth by water and sand, and bleached by the sun used to create awe inspiring works of art. Driftwood has been a favorite amoung local artists for years. Here on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille we have the perfect driftwood hunting grounds.

Using the natural water currents of the lake and with the use of Log booms built in the river by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, logs that enter the Lake Pend Orielle are collected in the drift yard by Clark Fork Idaho. As the lake levels lower each year, the collection site is left high and dry. Locals and travelers alike stop by the yard to find artistic inspiration in wood. Every couple of years the acres of remaining driftwood is lit on fire to make room for more.

So what can be made with driftwood? Whatever you want it to be. One of the grandest examples comes from the Horse Sculptures of Heather Jansch
