Creature Comforts
We love to organize!! Cabinet lines have come a long way in creating organizational tools in cabinetry. We call all these great little features "creature comforts" as they make everyday life a little easier. The pull-out trash, roll-out trays, full-exention self-closing drawer guides are some of our favorites. Not all of these features are really worth the extra cost, it really comes down to how people live in their kitchens and what will truly benefit them. At SKD Studios, we work with each individual client to find out their specific needs duing the design process, so that the end-product is a kitchen that functions flawlessly.
Here are a few new items to add to your list of "must haves":

The Dish Organizer with Shallow Drawer Insert
The large drawer base cabinets are universally used as Pot and Pan Drawers, however, they are just as popular for dishes. As people plan to 'age in place', dish storage becomes an issue. Instead of bending over to look in base cabinets, or having to lift heavy dishes overhead, people opt for deep drawers for dish storage. The shallow drawer insert is also a perfect place to store lids when using these drawers for pots and pans.

Pull-Out Spice Cabinet
There are almost too many uses for this cabinet to list! These skinny little cabinets pack a great storage punch. There is the obvious use as storage for spices, in Kelly's kitchen, this cabinet is used for all those little boxes of Tea's and Hot chocolate! Canned goods, extra condiments, boxed dry mixes are just a few other uses.

Magnetic Message Board/Key Storage
Ok, I think it is obvious why this one is making it to the top of the favorites list! A secret place to store keys, pens, grocery lists, everyday reminders.....amazing!

A Built in Broom closet
This cabinet is only 6" deep and comes with the hooks for the brooms! Perfect for small spaces that need every inch of functionality they can get!

Roll-Out Tray Divider Cabinet
These cabinets are wonderful. Large Platters, Cookie Sheets and Cutting Boards are just a few uses for this feature. Any time we have a small 9" to 12" space, this is the most functional cabinet to use.
Again, these are just a "few" kitchen storage ideas, cabinet lines are introducing new creature comforts every day!
Misconceptions about Kitchen Remodels
Since opening our new design studio, in Lusby, MD, we have noticed that our walk-in clients are asking some great questions. When it comes to remodeling, there seems to be some misconceptions out there. While HGTV is helping education the public, here are a few of the most common misconceptions that we are still hearing:
"I'll never get my money out of the kitchen when I sell my house"-As long as you stick to a budget that is roughly 15% of your home's value, based on current economic best practices, you could see a return on investment of around 80% to 90%. The key is to hire the right kitchen designer that will not "over design" your space. Instead, the right kitchen designer, will balance the value of your home with scope of your remodel project.
"Granite is the most expensive type of countertop" We see the shocked expressions on the faces of clients at least once a week when we tell them that, in most cases, granite will price out less than most of the other popular countertops. The pricing of any countertop material depends on color selection; a good kitchen designer will be able to help you make the selections that will allow you the personalization of your countertops while keeping you within your budget.
" Small kitchen design centers charge more than big box ‘discount' stores"...This is the greatest misconception SKD Studios battles every day. SKD Studios is a small "boutique" style kitchen and bath design studio. When people walk in to our studio they seem to immediately think "expensive" based on the quality of our products and our ability to maximize the space that we design. As we walk people through our custom process, they quickly realize that we have products that cater to all budgets and offer extensive personal service that no big box discount store can compete with. Given the chance, SKD Studios will develop from the ground up, custom designed spaces taking into account all your personal preferences. You can never get this level of customer service from the mass produced chain stores
With over 15 years of experience in kitchen, bath and interior design; we love to share our experience and insights!
Having Just opened our new studio, SKD Studios, we are amazed at the amount of people that are ready to remodel the master bath. The master bath is becoming a room that homeowners are viewing as their own private retreat. Many manufactures are aware and have come up with some amazing products to suit the growing demands of homeowners. Kohler has some really fun new vanity pieces that are both stylish and contemporary. These pieces come with the sink as well as the vanity for a sleek look.
there are so many options to choose from now, that the average homeowner may become overwhelmed quickly. At SKD Studios we understand that consumers want style and function but they also want pieces that are affordable.
Some things to think about when remodeling the master bath are where the plumbing is currently located. If you can work with the plumbing that is already in tact, you can usually save yourself some money. Many homeowners are realizing that they don't use the bathtub and are forgoing the tub for a super shower.
the possibilities are endless when it comes to showers. SKD Studios has so many custom tile options to choose from we carry brands like marazzi, American Olean and simply stone all from JJ Haines. Come by and see us at SKD Studios located in the Lusby Commons shopping 11734 Rousby Hall Road, Lusby Maryland located directly next door to Starbucks.
