Freecycle I a network of 4,581 across the globe. As a nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. First you sign up then you just post things via e-mail or internet that you need or don't need and your off.
I recently had two bikes that my boys out grew so I e-mailed freecycle the "Offer" and then watched my email. Sure enough I got a reply from a foster home parent in George Town that will be picking them up this week. If it is small you can meet them somewhere with it if it is big just say pick it up at said location.
It is based on the recycle and reuse rule by keeping stuff out of the landfills and maybe a little of the pay it forward, If you know you will not use something of value but cannot seem to throw it away pay it forward instead of just keeping it. It is that easy. Give it a try and spread the word if you haven't been to our locale transfer plant you should there is a lot of useful stuff being put into the ground.

For those that don't know our lovely town of Auburn was the location for Phenomenon starring John Travolta and showcasing our lovely Old Town Auburn. This is a nice opportunity for the current locals that not only worked on the set it gives some of the extras the chance to talk about what it was like. So come down and spend an evening at the movies.

For those searching for a good life, there is a Gold Country community that should be visited.
Auburn Lake Trails is a phenomenon, a community where one can live in privacy, when privacy everywhere is being obliterated in a wash of urbanism. At the Trails, residents live quietly amid the grandeur of the Sierra foothills.
Close by is the American River, a river born among up thrust rocks of the mighty Sierra. The river's waters drop down out of the mountains, roaring and foaming along the boulder-strewn way. Auburn Lake Trails stretches for five miles along the Middle Fork of the river, where the river quiets to a murmur.
While one may live here in complete privacy, Auburn Lake Trails has a vital sense of community, with shared activities for any who wish to participate. The community is especially attuned to horse people, with 30 miles of horse trails. The trails connect to the Tevis Trail; the Tevis leads to Lake Tahoe through some of the most isolated parts of the Sierra. The most adventurous in heart can mount their horses and, from Auburn Lake Trails, intersect the connecting Western States Trail System. Turning north, they can ride to Canada or, turning south, to Mexico.
