The price in gas has continued to move higher and higher and people are really starting to feel the crunch. Some families live all the way down in Spring Hill and commute to downtown Nashville 5 days a week. Others are not as bad considering they ONLY live in Franklin or Brentwood. Other than the traffic (which can take a total of up to 2 hours out of your day) the price at the tank is a heart breaker. I have a client who commutes 7 days a week! This cost is roughly $200 a week! Add that up and now you are at $800 a month!!
Sure Spring Hill real estate is lower and you can remain within Williamson County but is it really THAT much cheaper? Even with quick math it doesn't ad up and thus why more people are moving back INTO the city.
If you haven't been downtown in say a year, you'd be surprised at home many highrise condos are going up. Most of them are very nice. Even some of the Country Music stars have made a new home downtown Nashville (obviously gas isn't an issue for them). The Lofts are ranging anywhere from the low $100's up into the millions for top floor suites. Some of the newer Condos such as The Viridian, The Signature Tower, The Westin, and The Icon to name a few. These vary in styles and preferences and some are still being pre-sold! Some of the older Condos such as Lofts at the Exchange, Werthan Mills Lofts, Ambrose Lofts, Bennie Dillon Condo, and Art Avenue Lofts are all historic units but have been completely renovated to look as good as some of the newer units being built. Some of these condos (such as the Viridian) feature amenities such as 24-hour concierge, Rooftop pool and terrace, Clubroom lounge/bar, theatre area with plasma TVs, and state of the art fitness center.
Obviously there is are downsides (in some opinions) to living downtown. Some people enjoy having a yard to mow while others enjoy not having to worry about any maintenance at all. Some enjoy the privacy of a neighborhood while others enjoy knowing there are people around.
Without veering too far off the subject, I want to get back to the point. Downtown living may not only be more luxurious than one might think but it might also save a family in upwards of $800 a month in gas. The savings in gas alone can go towards a house payment, debt, or even a family emergency (Thanks Dave Ramsey).
