What an awesome day! (Extreme Makeover Home Edition in Cincinnati: I'm volunteering tomorrow!")

To be a part of it was really cool! Not only was it amazing to see how fast this house was built....it's beautiful inside and out!


Just thought I'd share some pictures and show you who I bumped into while I was there!

Paige (one of the designers for Extreme Makeover) is a real sweetheart...and of course, decked out in her pink tool belt!

This is the ranch style house being built...it's about 3500 square feet. There's an inground pool in the backyard.

This week we de-staged another SOLD property here at Stage a Star.  This is a GREAT success story I just had to share!

Our professional recommendations before staging:

• Painting (deck, bathroom (includes stripping wallpaper), touch up painting in kitchen & bedrooms)
• Paint an awkward kitchen cabinet that is actually a "message center". Buyers were confused by the location and function
• Update Front Door with new hardware, door knocker, kick plate, and side lights
• Update lighting in kitchen
• Weed/New mulch in landscaping
• Professional carpet/whole house cleaning

All recommendations were completed within a few weeks of staging.

I just picked up the May 2008 issue of Cincinnati Magazine as the cover caught my attention yesterday as I was checking out at the grocery store. This is a great article that navigates through our crazy market and addresses questions such as "What's selling right now?", "Is it actually a good time to buy?" along with other articles like "15 great Neighborhoods".....

The only thing I wish would have been addressed in this question is how COST EFFECTIVE a simple Staging Consultation can be in assisting homeowners when selling their homes. A professional stager will meet with the seller and evaluate the exterior and interior of the home listing out all of the professional recommendations needed. One other note: Keep in mind that the statistics stated by the International Association of Home Staging Professionals only includes staging companies that are Accredited Staging Professionals. They are also NATIONAL statistics and vary widely regionally. It is important when using a professional stager that you look at the local companies own statistics. This will give you a better idea of what to expect in the Cincinnati market.

Stage a Star was honored with the opportunity to partner and speak at a Book Signing Event with Tina Teramo Manion, PhA, RSP, founder of Retirement Planning Specialists. Tina has successfully assisted individuals and couples in the financial industry since 1979.

So how does Staging your home and Retirement Planning come together? Well...this was an interesting story how Tina and I came to partner together for her Book Signing event. Tina had been looking for a book on PRE-retirement at Barnes and Noble with no luck. There were plenty of books on retirement but no book on things to think about before your retire. The Barnes and Noble guy told Tina she should write the book and after wrestling with the idea for awhile....she wrote it. One of the chapters in her new book "Planning for Retirement", she writes about deciding where you want to live and if you will be selling your house or staying put. She thought it would be beneficial to her clients to have a professional home stager speak to her pre-retirees about the process of getting their home ready. Tina contacted Stage a Star and we thought it was a great idea!

I was able to share with Tina's pre-retiree clients the benefits of planning ahead when selling their home down the road. Many of these folks have been in their homes for many years so even beginning the process of preparing the home to sell can be overwhelming.

I shared a story with them about how many of my own clients are replacing carpet, updating their bathrooms and kitchens, removing wallpaper, and painting right before they put their homes up for sale. I always hear the same thing...."Teresa, I wish I would have done some of this years ago so I could at least enjoy it for awhile" Not to mention how stressful it is to do so much in a short amount of time.

Meeting with a professional stager for a consultation ahead of time is very smart planning. Homeowners have the "plan" of exactly what to do in regards to updating, repairs, painting, decor, etc. The "plan" allows them to work on the house completing recommendations according to their time frame. Even if it is several years before the house goes up for sale....the larger projects can be completed and enjoyed by the homeowners.

Tina's pre-retiree clients were a pleasure to meet. All were excited to learn about working with a professional stager and how it can benefit them during the pre-retirement years. Stage a Star looks forward to working with these fine folks!
