Ho‘okipa Beach Park

is located on the north shore of Maui, Hawaii. It is perhaps the most renowned windsurfing site in the world, The waves here are largest during the winter, and break across a system of reefs that extend across the bay. During the summer the waves are smaller. Ho'okipa is ideal for windsurfing because of its large well-shaped waves and strong winds. The name Ho‘okipa means "hospitality" in Hawaiian. While ever-present strong winds and powerful currents do not make the beach a place for beginners, experienced surfers and windsurfers continually flock to Ho'okipa for both recreation and windsurfing competitions.

My friends Murielle and Vincent came t o visit me from Los Angeles.

I improvised myself as a tourist guide and was quite proud to show the beauty and wonder of Maui.

The picture above isus at one of our stop at mama's fish house. My favorite Restaurant on Maui. :)

They have the delicious Tahitian Tuna salad on the menu. I love it so much that I can't help myself to order it every time I get to enjoy this Paradise!

Protea is the Oldest Flower in hawaii

Protea is the Oldest Flower in hawaii !

They come in many different shapes and colors and they are my favorite Tropical flowers.

As cut flowers Protea will last a long time without any special preparation to the water, often two to three weeks. For the best results, trim about one quarter off the end of the stem every few days when changing the water.

Many variety of Protea dry well, their learthy leaves and large blooms holding color for several months. When fully dried many of the larger varieties can be used in handicrafts.

First a little history....

The family Proteaceae was named after its type genus, called Protea. Protea is a South African genus known for its large and showy flowers.

In 1735 Carl Linneaus first mentioned the name, Protea, in referring to the small South African genus now known as Leucadendron. The name was again referred to by Robert Brown in 1809 in a thesis called 'On the Natural Order of Plants called Proteaceae'.

As live plants in Hawaii, Protea do best in tropical conditions with slight elevation where night temperatures are no lower than 50 degrees with day temperatures of 60 degrees or higher. They like being planted in sandy well drained soil made up of course sand, gravel, with some clay. Protea generally like full sun and well circulated air.

From Wipikedia:

The Proteaceae family to which Proteas belong is an ancient one. Its ancestors grew in Gondwanaland, 300 million years ago. Proteaceae is divided into two subfamilies: the Proteoideae, best represented in southern Africa, and the Grevilleoideae, concentrated in Australia and South America and the other smaller segments of Gondwanaland that are now part of eastern Asia. Africa shares only one genus with Madagascar, whereas South America and Australia share many common genera - this indicates they separated from Africa before they separated from each other.

Singluar ka.maa.i.na

Plurial Ka.maa.i.nas

Hawaiian resident: locally born or native born citizen of Hawaii; many local merchants offer what's known as a kama`aina rate (discounted rate for locals) For instance, you might see a Kama'aina rate at local golf courses, for goods in a store at a restaurant or island activities.

A driver's license is usually asked to be shown to get the rates. This is one reason why many people to relocate to Hawaii waste no time in getting a Hawaii driver's license.

The most important yet is not forget to ask about the Kamaaina rate before you order or at the time of payment!

Mahalo :)
