Just How Far Does 100K Go on a 100 Year Old House?

You may recall that I taped an episode for HGTV's "My House Is Worth What?" last fall that featured my historic house. In case you are not familiar with the show, each episode features three homeowners from different parts of the country. The homeowner presents what they have done (and spent) to improve the value of their home to a local real estate expert. In our case, this was Dana Zdancewicz of Prudential Fox & Roach Realtors in Devon, Pennsylvania. The realtor then provides a professional assessment of how well the homeowner's efforts paid off in terms of the value of the house in the current market.

We have lived in our century old Victorian house for 9 years and have done a number of major renovation projects, including a kitchen and master bathroom. In addition, we have replaced the roof and windows in the home. The previous owner was an architect who designed and built a family room/master bedroom addition onto the original house. While we do not have any plans to sell in the near future, we are interested in the amount of equity we have accumulated as a result of both the market and our improvements to the house. We love living in a historic house with great architectural details that has been modernized throughout!

The episode that features my house will air on Saturday, September 13 at 7:00 pm EST. I hope you will tune in to see the projected return on our investment.
