I just want to comment again on what a great area Cherokee County in NW Georgia is for seniors or should I say active adults?? The property taxes here are low compared to many retirement areas anyway -- but with the added exemption that applies once you turn 62 -- property taxes are cut again by up to 73%!! That means that there are active adults living in 150K and higher homes that are paying only hundreds of dollars in property taxes! There are other reasons that this area is "senior friendly" of course. There is plenty of shopping, restaurants, and medical facilities all near by and the interstate is easily accessible from most areas of the county. There are many schools of excellence also -- not a concern for seniors probably -- but great for resale. If you are fed up with the ridiculous taxes and homeowner insurance rates in other parts of the country -- definitely check out my area -- Cherokee County or Canton, GA.
