Village of Walden-Maybrook

Village of Walden is having a village wide garage sale Saturday, June 14th from 9am-3pm. Gather together all your unwanted or unneeded items and join in with a sale.

Remember this Sunday is the VFW pancake breakfast. June 1 from 8am to 12pm at the Maybrook VFW hall.

Village of Walden fourth annual Soap Box Derby

Village of Walden fourth annual Soap Box Derby will be held on June 7th on Scofield. The Walden Soap Box Derby has grown over the past three years from 16 racers in one division to 42 racers in two divisions last year. The Village of Walden is an All-American Soap Box sanctioned Race Village. This allows the top racers in each of the two divisions to compete in the national races in Akron, Ohio, each summer. Town of Crawford Historical Society

Crawford's Historical Society will be having a house and garden tour on June 29th. The tour will run from noon to 3pm. Tickets are $10 per person.

Tickets will be on sale at the Cultural center starting at 11am. All proceeds from the tour will benefit the Historical Society's Scholarship fund. For information call 744-5418. The homes on this year's tour are: Pine Bus House, ElizaSloat Home. VanKeuren House, Smith House Farm, Falconer Inn, The Kelly Barn, Bruyn Homestead, Alexander Thompson Home, and Baranowski Home.

Pine Bush Relay for Life change

A change has been made to the Relay for Life schedule. The event will be held at the Town Park on June 14 and 15. The cancer survivor lap will now be held immediately following the opening ceremonies at 3pm. Please pass the word on to all survivors. Let them know if they plan to walk this important lap, they must be on site by 2:30pm. Line up for survivors will start at 3pm. If anyone has any questions please call Donna Henke 744-8017

County Highlights in Orange, New York State

- The number of jobs in Orange County grew to 128,987 in 2006, an increase of 7l.9 percent or 9,400 jobs from the level in 2000. The pace of job growth slowed, however, in the first half of 2007.

-Together, the trade, transportation, and utilities sector and the government sector account for nearly half of the county's jobs.

-Three hospitals in Orange County employ 1,000 or more people, but most businesses in the county are small: almost 90 percent employ fewer than 20 people.

-While the unemployment rate in Orange County has begun to rise, it is still low and remains below the statewide rate.

-Since 2000, wages in Orange County have grown every year, rising by a total of 33.5% between 2000 and 2006.

-In 2006, the median home price in Orange County was $309,000, which was seventh highest among all State counties outside of New York City. Home values more than doubled between 2000 and 2006.

-Orange County's population grew at a faster rate (10%) than an other county in the State between 2000 and 2007.

-In 2006, the number of crimes per 1,000 people in Orange County was 22.2 less than the statewide rate of 24.7 crimes per 1,000 people.

-The expansion of Steward Airport creates several opportunities for economic growth in Orange County.
