Visit Houston's Miller Outdoor Theater for great FREE entertainment! This relaxed theater venue is great for families. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs or try for the covered seating area. (This area requires tickets that are available (still free) the day of the performance only between 10:30 AM & 1 PM at the theater's box office. Max 4 tickets per person.

Miller Outdoor Theater offers you options for dining. Bring your own picnic basket (no glass containers) or visit the concession stand - your choice.

As far as the entertainment goes - it is a definite wow! This week the offering is Urban Cowboy: The Musical. Great show with Houston ties. The original film of Urban Cowboy was tilmed here in Houston - who could forget the dancing scenes at Gilley's in Pasadena or the mechanical bull!

Miller Outdoor Theater is located in Herman Park - just across from the Houston Museum of Natural Science or the Houston Zoo. Free parking is available in front of the zoo or the Herman Park golf course clubhouse or the Bayou Parkland Pavilion. You could also opt to take MetroRail from one of the public parking lots along Main Street.

Cheddar's Casual Cafe comes to Humble Texas! / Susan Brown, Your Texas Connection, Keller Williams Realty NE

Cheddar's Casual Cafe recently opened a location in Humble, Texas. And we are glad they did! Located at 9500 FM 1960, between Townsen & Kenswick, Cheddars opened to crowds of hungry diners. At peak times, there are lines of people out the door - a sure sign that there is some good food being served inside!

The Cheddar's menu includes a wide variety of soups, salads, burgers & sandwiches, as well as entrees that include chicken, fish, steak & much more. Warm honey-butter croissants are served with the salads. A tower of onion rings comes with ranch & cajun dipping sauce. And you need to save room for dessert!

We selected the following for lunch.
Grilled Tilapia with Mango Salsa. Grilled shrimp & the mango salso top the tilapia - plus you get two sides (that loaded baked potato is so worth it)

Cornmeal Catfish. Lots of catfish, light & flaky with two sides.

And the dessert that we have every visit to Cheddar's is the Cheddar's Legendary Monster Cookie. A chocolate chip cookie is baked in a skillet, topped with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream, nuts & a cherry. Order this as you are finishing up your meal, since each cookie is baked to order. It can take anywhere from 8 to 13 minutes.

As always, we watched other tables to see what we might like to try on our next visit. The Crispy Chicken Salad was huge - with a generous amount of chicken tenders over a green salad. The Shepherd's Pie filled a plate with it's beef & vegetables topped with mashed potatoes. And the Hand-Dipped Shakes came to the table with the metal container too.

An article in the Houston Chronicle this week warns consumers that the record low mortgage rates could soon be gone. Although mortgage experts don't want consumers to rush out and buy a house they genuinely can't afford, they do want consumers to be aware that the low rates won't last forever. As the economy improves, so will interest rates.

Hand in hand with this viewpoint is the affordability of housing in the greater Houston area. It's true that prospective buyers can find homes in the $200's with pools in great communities. It's true that golf course homes can be had for under $200,000. The housing market here has a lot to offer, along with the vibrance of the 4th largest city in the US - Houston!
