In Buncombe County a/k/a Metro Asheville in July 2009 we sold 9 more houses in the "up to $100K" price range than we did in July 2008! We sold 8 more homes in the $100-200K price range in July 2009 than we did in July 2008! BUYERS take note: The average price of the homes that sold in July 2009 compared to a year ago dropped $20K. What does this mean? Prices are low, interest rates are low - NOW is a great time to buy a home!

South Asheville Restaurants

In South Asheville, the dining fare ranges from casual but tasty Mediterranean cuisine to martinis and 18-ounce steak along the waterfront. This area, with close proximity to Asheville Regional Airport and Biltmore Estate, boasts a mix of both casual and upscale restaurants.

Eat a brunch of beautifully-presented gourmet southern cuisine like shrimp, andouille sausage and grits on a porch studded with white columns. Sample Chinese food at one of the first restaurants to eliminate all use of MSG and which also offers an extensive vegetarian menu.

South Asheville's restaurants cater to a wide variety of tastes and moods.

One of my favorite locally owned restaraunts is Tuscon Southwestern Grill. It has great healthy choices of burritos and low carb bowls, but my favorite is the chicken and spinach quesadilla.

Speaking of Mexican, you can't go wrong with Don Papa's on Hendersonville Road. Everything is fresh and made daily. The pineapple chicken flautas with a dark roamine salad and homemade cesear dressing is a perfect lunch. They offer a complimentary bean dip as well as a salsa bar for your chips, which is also a nice touch.

Of course we have most of the franchise chains you would want like Five Guys which is my middle son, John, slice of heaven. I prefer French Fryz where not only do they make their own hamburger patties and fries, but they also have 50's milk shakes with a scoop of ice cream in the shake. YUM!

JK's Kitchen on Long Shoals Rd is a local favorite "meat and three" eatery. They are known for they JK homemade chips as well. But watch your watch, because they are only open for breakfast and lunch, so plan ahead.

South Asheville is a great family oriented area and has lots to offer, not only in the way of eateries, but also recreation etc. But we'll save that for another blog.

Flowers for Instant Curb Appeal in South Asheville

rightFlowers for instant curb appeal

The experts all agree that curb appeal is one of the most important aspects to consider when selling your home in South Asheville. When selling, it's the appearance from the street that will very often determine whether potential buyers come in to see the inside, or never get out of their cars.

Flowers are one of the easiest and least expensive ways to make the front of your house look inviting and instantly increase the curb appeal of your home. Without any real landscaping at all, flowers can transform a rather drab and dreary looking front yard into one that looks colorful and lush. Especially during spring and summer, you should take advantage of the season by planting pots and flower boxes. A great local nursery in South Asheville that has a wonderful assortment of annuals and perrenials is B.B. Barnes on Sweeten Creek Road.

You should choose colorful flowers that will be in bloom during the time you're selling your home. Planting the flowers in planter boxes and pots is easier than planting them in the ground and lets you more easily place them where they can have the most visual impact. You don't need to have a green thumb, or spend a lot of money to get great results either. Visit your local home improvement center or nursery and they will be happy to advise you of the best flowers and plants for your purpose. You can put together several very nice planter boxes and pots of flowers for well under $100. And it's easy!

One of the nice things about using flowers in this way is that you'll see the results immediately. And so will buyers visiting your home in South Asheville!
