I discovered a new nugget of value on Twitter today and wanted to share. The WSDOT (Washington State Department of Transportation) is using twitter to tweet out traffic and transportation info for our state. This is awesome! I feel proud of my state for leveraging twitter because it's so efficient and immediate for quick bits of information such as traffic news and alerts.
What if the state tried to build a system from scratch that sent out traffic info to 2500+ people's cell phones or PDAs? It's likely that it would be cumbersome, take years to develop, and cost gobs of money to promote. Instead, they simply tweet the latest info for all those who have ears to hear it via twitter. Way to go Evergreen State for leveraging this existing and free technology!

If you're wondering what the heck twitter is, here's a fun (and brief) little video by Commoncraft that should clear things up for you.

2008 was a wild and scary ride for most of us. And most of us spent a lot of time thinking and talking about the housing market and the burdensome cost of transportation. Now that we're done with our presidential election and one month into the new year, I thought it would be interesting to take a look back specifically at the stats for Gasoline and Housing for the beautiful city of Tacoma, WA.
Draw whatever conclusions you will from the data. I personally think the data raises more questions than answers. Is there a coorelation between these two graphs? Will lower gas prices boost confidence? Was the election a major influence on both?
For Gas info, I went to www.gasbuddy.com and created my own chart for Tacoma.

As for housing information for Tacoma, WA, I checked out Cyberhomes.com to find out what the overall trend was for prices and volume:
Well, here's a new concept for our friends buying and selling homes in Gig Harbor, WA. We're going mobile!
As of December 1, 2008 Ticor Title & Escrow will be 100% Mobile in the Harbor area.
What does this mean? It means that we're offering free mobile escrow signings in the Gig Harbor market during normal business hours. It means that we'll meet our clients in a location that is convenient for them. It means that we are running light and flexible and green. It's a more efficient & lower cost way of maintaining our presence in a valuable part of Pierce County.
We appreciate our Gig Harbor clients very much and look forward to providing Title Insurance and Escrow service to them with the same great staff, same trustworthy service, but with a fresh new take on the location.
See you in Gig Harbor!
My good friend Rene Fabre turned me on to an amazing online photo editing site that has blown my mind. And my mind is blown mainly because it's so easy to use. I'm a big fan of Photoshop and use it all the time for work and fun. But for a quick photo edit, I would recommend Picnik for anyone.
Here's why:
It's free! - It's the not paying money part that I like...
It's so intuitive - I sat in a meeting with four sales reps while they looked at the site for the first time. Without any instruction, they were able to intuitively load a picture and start tweaking it! And I could tell they were having fun doing it!
It's got a lot of features. - There's a whole library of photo touch up tools to choose from and they're neatly organized in a tabular format so you don't feel lost using them.
It's timely - It goes without saying that the web is a visual medium. Now is the time for those who want to market their wares on the web to equip themselves with the tools necessary for making a stellar visual presentation.
Here's a photo that I touched up in about 3 minutes.

For anyone who happens to be looking for a wireless internet service in the South end of Puget Sound, I wanted to share my experience with Verizon's Wireless Internet service.
I live in Gig Harbor and work in Pierce and King Counties and have used the Verizon service with great results.
And for my fun and your benefit, I have created a google map that shows the places where I have used the service. If you click on the markers on the map, you can read a quick blurb about the connection quality in each place.
Here's a link to my Real Estate Tech blog for the map and a quick read about it.
Enjoy!
