Only a Texas Aggie would dream of changing the color of the state flower, and only an Aggie could pull it off.
Marroon bluebonnets aren't really so old that most people would consider them a Tradition but in Aggieland if we do it more than once it must be a Tradition so.... another Tradition is born and now have even prettier flowers!
Thanks to Texas naturalist and con artistist named Carroll Abbott who came up with the dream (or maybe strange idea) of using bluebonnets in the shape of a Texas flag to celebrate the 1986 Texas Sesquicentennial.
Thanks to Greg Grant (of course an Aggie himself who likes the color maroon) who decided a red bluebonnet was not quite what he was looking for!
I know red, white and blue may be the colors of the Texas State Flag but as all Aggies know it should have been Maroon and White instead!
Have you seen any maroon and white Maroonbonnets around Bryan/College Station? Take a little piece of real estate and plant a few!
Lightning Prediction Systems have been installed and are now operational in many of the City's parks and schools. The purpose of this system is to further contribute to the safety of users of the outdoor facilities by complementing existing rules and practices already in place. A strobe light will begin to flash and one long 15-second audible alert will sound to indicate that conditions conducive to lightning are present. Procedures to clear fields and pools, stop or postpone athletics, and reduce exposure of personnel outside will be implemented as appropriate. Once the danger has
past, the system will sound an "All Clear" with three short audible blasts of the horn and the flashing strobe light will no longer flash.
Locations of Lightning Prediction Systems
PD Dispatch Central, Bee, WPC Unit on front of PD; horns at each location -
Sandstone Sandstone Unit on wood pole behind gazebo shelter
Southwood Park Park, Pool, CS Junior High Unit on wood pole on curve of road south of maintenance office
Thomas Park Park, Pool, College Hills Elem Unit on roof of shelter near pool

Miller Park Park, Rock Prairie Elementary School Unit of roof of shelter
Pebble Creek Park Park, PC Elementary School Unit on wood pole east of school, in park

The unit at PD is the only one where the sensing unit is located separately from the warning horns. In this case, the sensor
and horns should all be plotted geographically. Range circles will be different for this system.
