Local farms

I just added two local growers to our San Antonio Foodshed group on Facebook:

http://www.shadyfallsfarm.com in Elmendorf and http://www.greencountryfarm.com in Floresville. Shady Falls Farm offers eggs, chicken, turkey, beef, and pork. Green Country Farm offers organically grown blackberries. Visit www.sanantoniofoodshed.org for updates and information on where to find locally-grown food in the San Antonio area.

Happy picking!

Grape Kool-aid?

Are you smelling whiffs of grape kool-aid in the air? If you're new to San Antonio or the Texas Hill Country, or just visiting, you may not realize that the smell comes from a tree - the Mountain Laurel. It's native to San Antonio and the Hill Country, a beautiful tree that is drought-tolerant and as well-adapted to our neighborhoods as to the undeveloped hills. Are you looking for a great tree to plant in the yard? Keep this one in mind.

2006 was an interesting year. Note that there were many houses on the market, their median sales price was lower (by about $9,000), and they were on the market the shortest amount of time.
