El Dorado Aquatics Swimming Club in Tucson Arizona is home to teen swim sensation Caitlin Leverenz who narrowly missed making the Olympic Team in the summer of last year. But, she posted her lifetime best times in finishing 3rd in the 200 Breast (2.25.98), 4th in the 400IM (4.38.54) and 4th in the 200 IM (2.11.25) at Trials. Caitlin, along with the entire El Dorado Swim Club, was disappointed but she came home with a big smile and ready to get back in the pool! And yes, she got back in our small club pool! I've had the opportunity to meet Caitlin and not only is she a gifted swimmer, tremendous high school student on her way to a full ride scholarship at college this Fall, but what struck me the most is that she is a genuinely nice person not to mention one of the sweestest teens I have meet in quite some time. (Photo of Caitlin Leverenz at Beijing Olympic Trials courtesy of El Dorado Aquatics Club.)
Head Coach Rick Laingis a former Olympic coach, along with Coach Eriko and Coach Kyle are excellent for the novice right on up to the skilled high school swimmers. Even if your child cannot swim and is older, in no time they will get him/her up to speed and ready to practice with their age-appropriate group. My daughter has been swimming with El Dorado Aquatics for the past couple summers and in a few weeks they got her from "dog paddling" to swimming to winning several first place ribbons at last years swim meets.
The club operates solely off monthly tuition fees and fundraisers to offset pool and meet expenses. With your tuition you'll receive a club t-shirt, a USAA membership, meet fees are covered for the summer and you'll also receive a "yellow cap" (which Caitlin wore throughout the Olympic Trials!) synonymous with the El Dorado Aquatics Club.
If you are looking for a small, yet experienced swim team for your children - check out El Dorado Aquatics! It's a club with a lot of spunk and heart. Add a wonderful family environment, good healthy recreation for kids and parents that are a whole bunch of fun - and you've got yourself a great time! (Photo at left courtesy of El Dorado Aquatics Club.)
The price per swimmer is reasonable, roughly $80 per month and your child can go to as many lessons every week as they want - whether one day a week or six - you'll get your money's worth! Swimmers as young as age 4 up through high school can be a part of the club. Summer enrollment is ongoing - check out their website for more information and sign up today - you never know - you might have an Olympian in the making!

I love a Mom and Pop restaurant! Don't you?! And they are even better when you just stumble upon them!
Last weekend, on the way home from business in Sierra Vista, Arizona, driving down Highway 92, my family and I slowed for a checkpoint. While waiting, I see a strip mall off the side of the road. Here's what caught my eye -
OPEN -- Southern Cooking -- and CLEAN!
Okay - I was hungry and game for some good old fashioned southern food and talked the hubby into stopping!
First of all -- the restaurant wasn't just clean - it was immaculate. Nothing fancy, but very functional and homey. I noticed that on every wall there was some sort of scripture or verse related to Family. Hence the name, Family Tree Restaurant. There was lots of dining space and an old-fashioned soda bar with swivel bar stools!
Being careful about what I eat for 90% of the year (I tend to splurge from time to time on things that aren't the best for me - but are the best tasting!)- my family and I quickly reviewed the menu and decided on a sirloin burger with fries, lightly breaded catfish (YES - catfish - haven't had that since I lived in Augusta, Georgia) and my daughter settled on ravioli with no sauce.
In a nutshell - this is a true family, owned and operated establishment. They put their heart, soul and all their money into this American dream. The owners value their customers and try very hard to make it as comfortable as home. At first, we were the only customers in the restaurant, but quickly, it began filling up with people just passing by. And the owners were excited! The food was more than generous, it was "light" considering it was gently fried and it was cooked and served quickly!
Here is how I know these folks have a good sense of family - while we were eating, my daughter lost yet another tooth. At that moment the chef came over and asked how everything was. Happily, my daughter shrieks, "It's all great except for a tooth that came out in my pasta!" The chef got such a kick out of it and took the time to sit and talk with her about the Tooth Fairy!
If you happen to be in Sierra Vista or Huachuca City, Arizona - and are feeling like some good ole' southern cooking, make sure you stop at the Family Tree Restaurant!
