South Windsor is home to many small businesses and best schools—overall, it is a strikingly diverse and colorful community. Yes, the town of South Windsor has a lot to offer, and I can guarantee, it doesn’t matter what taste you have – you will find something to satisfy it here, in South Windsor.
I would like to share with you one of my favorite restaurants, in South
Windsor, located at 465 Buckland Road, (860) 644-0647. It is the best Thai restaurant --Sawadee Thai Cuisine. This Thai restaurant owned by the Chuaviriya Family, opened up in 2001. It is a 55--seat facility, not too big, not too small, just enough to create a warm, homelike atmosphere. When you walk in, a friendly staff member will escort you to your table and present you with a menu. By the time you finish studying the beautiful, one-of-a-kind Thai wall hangings, with soft background music playing in the background; your food will be prepared.
Sawadee Thai Cuisine is something between Indian and Chinese in taste. If you like these foods, you’ll enjoy the food prepared at Sawadee. Ms. Tik Chuaviriya, co-owner, says that some entrees are spicy. You will see a star next to them on the menu. Chefs can prepare these for you on a scale of one to five, with one being mild. Dishes include wide varieties of meat and vegetables. You will see entrees prepared with duck, chicken, pork, beef, seafood, or eggplant vegetable/tofu.
One of my favorites is Pineapple Fried Rice – Kao Pad Sapparod (see photo). It is $11.95 and made with shrimp, chicken, pineapple, cashew nuts, raisins, carrots, eggs, and snow peas. The plate is pretty large, so I always take half of it home (for a late-night snack).
Among other delicious dishes are appetizers: Spring Rolls (Chicken/Vegetable)-- kids’ favorite; Golden bags—Thoong Thong (kids’ favorite as well), made with deep-fried, minced crispy chicken wrapped with spring-roll skin, served with plum sauce; Satay Chicken/Beef, marinated in coconut milk with Thai spices and grilled, served with peanut sauce and cucumber relish dip; and Prik Klea (like chicken nuggets).
Some of the popular entrees are: Panang Duck—Panang Ped*, light, sweet, coconut-based with kaffir leaves, string beans, and green peas; Red Curry—Gang Dang*, coconut-based curry with bamboo shoots, eggplant, bellpappers, and basil.
When you visit Thai restaurant, don’t forget about dessert! The Signature dish is Mango Delight. It is made with a sweet, sticky rice (cooked with coconut milk and palm sugar) and sweet mango. It is topped with mild coconut and sesame seeds and priced at $5.50. Best dessert in the best Thai restaurant! Make sure, also, to try their full-of-aroma Thai hot tea or ginger/jasmine/green tea.
Ms. Chuaviriya says that many regular customers come here for lunch on weekdays because the restaurant features a different soup every day. Their most popular ones are chicken and tofu soup, spicy bamboo, and spicy chicken soup.
Ms. Chuaviriya says that for quality and safety she purchases all the meat and poultry for her Thai restaurant, from companies in the United States. From Thailand, she purchases long-grain jasmine rice that has a wonderful smell, dry noodles, fish/soy sauces, and mango/coconut juices.
By the way, in case you didn’t know,” Sawadee” means hello and goodbye in Thai.

When my family and I moved to South Windsor from California, years ago, we started to look for a new physician, pediatrician, eye doctor, best family dentist... Well, you know what I mean. If you have ever had to move a from town where you know everything and everybody, to a completely blank canvas... you have to draw a picture yourself.
Unfortunately, my initial research in finding a best family dentist didn’t bring me great result... I listened to one of my neighbors and chose a family dentist from Vernon (don’t want to name names, sorry). That relationship was something of a one-way street. Neither my husband nor I felt welcome there. Every time we went in for dental work we felt as if we were there for the first time: there was no connection between the doctor and us. I would like to tell you about Clayton’s Kenpo Karate, located at 942 Sullivan Avenue, (860) 648-2585, South Windsor.
When my oldest son, Nikita, turned nine years old, my husband and I were thinking about what kind of sport we could sign him up for. Of course, he was taking swimming lessons and playing baseball and soccer during the warm seasons, but what can you do all year around?
Being the daughter of a military officer, I always remembered my father practicing martial arts, such as karate, dzudo, and even boxing. My dad was in great physical and mental health, thanks to his continuined training.
Being the mom of two boys, I always keep in mind what a role model my father was to me and what he taught me. With that in mind, my husband and I started researching nearby best karate schools.
We decided to sign my son up for best karate classes with Mr. Clayton. Nikita was nine years old back then, and now, at thirteen, he still enjoys his karate sessions. Our young son, Andrei, is six years old now, and this is his second year at Clayton’s Kanpo Karate.
Last year Andrei begged us to sign him up for the best karate classes, saying,” I want to be like Nikita!” Of course, he was only five years old back then, and we didn’t think he was ready... But we are so glad that we allowed him to take lessons with what we consider to be the best Karate school in South Windsor! Andrei is in Little Dragons (ages four through six), and Nikita is in advanced classes now.
When you go to Clayton’s Kenpo Karate, you will be greeted by Joann, the friendly receptionist, and Mr. Clayton himself. He is like a gentle, friendly giant (although, with his teddy bear smile, he does look like one when teaching the Little Dragon class). He knows when to speak kindly to his students, but from the first lesson Mr. Clayton teaches children what karate is all about. He stresses that this kind of martial art teaches self-control, and imparts many other benefits to students, physical, mental and spiritual. He treats the art of Karate seriously. Systematic practice in the martial arts may boost a person’s physical fitness (strength, stamina, flexibility, movement, and coordination). Beyond contributing to physical fitness, martial arts training also have benefits for mental health, contributing to self-esteem and emotional well-being.
If you sign your children, (whether sons, or daughters) for the best karate classes in South Windsor, you will not be disappointed.
Along with best karate classes, which your children may attend 
at least twice a week, they will have the chance to attend weapons class, where they will learn all kinds of techniques, with various weapons, and sparring class. At the end of each month is graduation party, where students earn their stripes.
In addition to best karate classes, Clayton’s Kenpo Karate offers fun events for the whole family. One of them is the snow tubing trip (extremely popular!!!). For this outing students and their friends and family experience an all-day trip. In addition to the tubing, children find it exciting to ride on the bus and watch DVD. And of course, what can beat luxury fine dining on the way back? Yes, it is one of the times when we are okay with McDonalds.
My husband and I also like the movie nights. For these events your children attend while their parents enjoy a night out. During those three hours, you have plenty of time to watch a movie and stop by for an intimate dinner at Carrabba’s (one of my favorite restaurants).
