The Citizens Police Academy was started back in 1987 and has been a huge hit with over a thousand local Tulsa, Oklahoma residents. The next Citizens Police Academy at the Tulsa Police Department will be on September 2nd.
If you live in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and would like to step into the life of a police officer, then come to the Tulsa Police Department and sign up. Spaces will go fast, so hurry on in.
The Citizens Police Academy originally started to let residents of Tulsa know how their tax money is being spent, and what life as an officer of the law is really like. So far, everyone that has taken the class will agree that it's nothing like what you see on the T.V. or in the movies.
Residents get a complete understanding of what an officer goes through each and everyday. The class will outline the responsibilities and duties of a Tulsa police officer.
Citizens Police Academy classes are held each Tuesday evening for a total of 14 weeks. Students will learn something new each week. They will get to see how the Special Operations Team works, they will visit the crime lab, they will tour the police helicopter, and they will get to take part in police-made scenarios. And, to give a feel of a real cop, they will even get to shoot a gun at the range.
We like the idea of the academy. It's a great way to be a better member of the Tulsa community.
Many people have had a tight budget this past year. So, in effort to help families with children, Tulsa , Oklahoma will have several free local events. This is a great opportunity for all families. So, bring your children to one of the following locations to get free school supplies, haircuts and immunizations.
We just love what the community of Tulsa , Oklahoma is doing for our young ones.
I just found out that the new Spirit Bank Event Center is getting ready to open its doors soon in Bixby , Oklahoma . The concerts for this fall have just been announced so construction crews are in a hurry to finish by the deadline.
Concert performances for this fall will include Uncle Kracker, Kutless, and Michael Smith.
It's great to have a new events center in town but there has been a bit of talk about the new event center competing with the Mabee Center and the BOK Arena for entertainment acts. Everything should workout though. The Spirit Bank Event Center will host the 66rs basketball games, while the Mabee Center will host the ORU Eagles basketball games. So far it doesn't look to me like they are in competition. The Spirit Bank will be the smallest venue of three venues with a capacity of 4,000 people. The Mabee holds 10,000 people and the BOK Arena holds 18,000 people.
Other events on schedule for Spirit Bank are basketball tournaments, gymnastics and wrestling competitions, hunting and fishing shows, and bridal fairs. Spirit Bank is set to open with its first event in September.

Tulsa 's new City Council and Mayor Kathy Taylor are inviting Tulsa , Oklahoma residents and friends to join them for "Neighborfest ‘08" in Tulsa parks this summer. The last event will be August 5th. This event will also celebrate a city-wide back to school rally where all Tulsa 's students and parents can get together and get to know each another.
Also at this year's event there will be the new "Bring a Friend to Tulsa ." You can sign up to win two round-trip tickets to bring a friend to Tulsa . Other prizes are included in the winner's prize package. The city came up with this unique way to get visitors to come to Tulsa so they can see just how great the city has grown, with great hopes they will buy a home.
We hope everyone and their friends enjoy this years Neighborfest.
