State Legislator, Michael Beaulieu of Auburn recently posted the following important article in his newsletter:

State regulators ordered 15 separate foreclosure rescue companies to cease doing business in Maine. The companies took advance fees from consumers without providing any debt management assistance. All 15 of the companies are located out of state.

The companies took $36,000 from 300 Maine households collectively but have not assisted a single Maine consumer. A list of the 39 licensed and bonded debt management companies in Maine can be found at http://www.credit.maine.gov/ under "Rosters" and then "Debt Management Service Providers." A list of the suspended firms may be found at http://www.maine.gov/pfr/consumercredit/enforcement.shtml.
