Along with the success of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport come more and more visitors to the Mesa, and Phoenix East Valley Arizona area. Slated to be built upon the former General Motors' Proving Grounds, the Gaylord Resort will be the largest hotel in Arizona. This hotel, along with the growth of the area, and the airport, will provide visitors with easy access to and from areas in and around the Phoenix Valley - including all of the wonderful day trips they can take within 3 hours from east Mesa. I've provided an excerpt from the East Valley Tribune below; however, you can click om the Gaylord Resort above to get more details. Some of the details not mentioned in this article include: the Mesa project is expected to rise 10 stories, have 1,200 to 1,500 rooms and 200,000 to 300,00 square feet of indoor meeting/convention space.
There is also planned a 200-acre, 18-hole desert golf course.

Allegiant Air once again opens up more flights out of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. Beginning on October 24, 2008, Allegiant Air offers non-stop air service between Redmond, Oregon and Mesa Arizona. Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is easily accessible to the east valley, quickly adding more and more flights. Allelgiant Air fares are very
reasonable, and Allegiant focuses on the areas less serviced by larger airlines. I've provided a link for more information on flights in and out of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. Arizona hosts many visitors during the winter months who travel from all across the company - especially during the winter (cooler) months.
During the summer months, our visitors retreat to cooler areas, such as Redmond, Oregon and vicinity. I heartily recommend my friend, Thesa Chambers if you are looking for a summer home in Central Oregon.

Okay, those of us who've been around for awhile have heard all of the raves and shouts about the Flip Video? Despite several attempts to capture lightening shots with my Nikon SLR and my Sony Cyber-Shot, I could not get a good shot. So, I jumped online to ask the photo experts their opinion. See them here: I received a bevy of good tips including a link from Bryce Mohan explaining the idea behind shooting fireworks - which just so happened I had posted on when he shared - here. You will see that I had managed to take some fairly decent shots of fireworks, but had not thought about doing the same thing for lightening.
So, are you ready? Drumroll, please! I leisurely went outside last evening as the lightening storms had started, and took my Flip Video. I "thought" there were some good bolt shots, and actually did find one. I don't know if those of you who have a Flip know it or not, but you can capture a shot from your video - which is exactly what I did. I came up with this....Not bad, huh?

I thought this turned out really cool. AND it was taken with the Flip!!! Yet another good reason to have that handy little camera in your possession.
Our monsoons the last week have been absolutely amazing.....lots of wind, rain, and damage and LOUD claps of thunder......I grew up here with the monsoons, and one thing I can say? They are never, ever the same. But we LOVE the moisture we get. ;-)

The other day, I shared a list posted on the website of the Arizona Department of Real Estate of builders having financial difficulties. Today, there were two articles for two separate builders in our Phoenix Valley filing bankruptcy - Chapter 11.....
1. Woodside Homes based out of Utah which have several communities going....one in Mesa, Arizona. The link to that article is from the Salt Lake Tribune. Hopefully Woodside Homes will be able to work itself out of bankruptcy, and sell some homes. I didn't realize they built in so many states. Woodside floorplans have always been some of my favorite.
2. Charlevoix Homes is another builder, and that article is found in the Arizona Republic.
Bottom line, everyone is struggling in this market, though I have see positive signs of our market. These builders, along with others, are finding it difficult to sell their homes. Words to the wise: Make certain that you are informed when purchasing a new home by checking online, or on the Department of Real Estate website for any information you can find on the status of builders in your area.

As some of you know, I recently posted a blog about the Arizona monsoon with spectacular photos of cloud
formations. I now include an article from ASU about monsoons for your further information.
Well, tonight, one came rolling in - LOVE IT! - and I rushed outside to take some lightening shots. Nothing shows up on my camera, or rather, it will not click 'cause there's not enough light.
Please, someone help. Our monsoons are beautiful, and I can catch the rain, the clouds, the dust - but so far, not the lightening.
It is thundering as I speak.....and our monsoons will soon go away until next year. All of you shutterbugs out there? Can you share? Wait, could I do the flip video of t
he lightening? Anyone know?
I did capture some photos of the sky lit up but, alas, no lightening...yet! ;-)
