Getting Ready For Summer!
The Silver Sox Baseball team is getting ready to start their home baseball season. As part of The Golden Baseball League, the team play their home games at Peccole Park in Reno.
Peccole Park is located on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. The following is a brief schedule of events kicking off the teams opening season:
May 23rd - Opening Night is "Quake Night!" Two people will receive free earthquake sundae's from Swenson's Ice Cream Shoppe. Yum! Ready Washoe will also be available answering questions and giving information out to fans on how to stay safe in an emergency.
May 24th- Not only do lucky Silver Sox fans get to see two games this night, they will also get to see an amazing FIREWORKS display after the games to kick off the 2008 season.

Reno, Nevada Triple-A Baseball team naming contest!
Name That Team Contest!

Reno's new Triple-A baseball team has unveiled a contest to name the new team!
The new ballpark is scheduled to open in April, 2009. The park will provide seating for 10,000 people and will offer a picnic area and a children's play area. A great place for the entire family.
The Reno based team will begin play in the Pacific Coast League, a 16-team league that stretches from Portland to Nashville.

Arts in Bloom

Sparks, Nevada. If you are looking for something to do this Mother's Day don't miss out on the sixth annual Arts in Bloom festival at the Sparks Marina Park.
The event benefits the Northern Nevada Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. You can enjoy artwork, food, and entertainment. You will also be able to participate in a special celebrity painted plate auction featuring well-known figures. All proceeds will go to the Komen fo rthe Cure Foundation of Northern Nevada.
This event is free and open to the public. The Sparks Marina Park is located at 300 Howard Drive. Art sales, food vendors and music begin at 10:00AM.
MOMS ON THE RUN
Another big local event happening this Mother's Day, May 11, 2008 is the eighth annual MOMS ON THE RUN event sponsered by Pinocchio's restaurants. The event is a non-profit organization formed in 2000 to raise money to assist local women with breast cancer. All monies raised will be donated to specific needs of women's cancer in Norhtern Nevada.
In this activity your can run or walk a 5k or 10k. Children and the entire family are welcome to participate.
The cost is $40. (Children under 10 years of age is $10). Sign up at the Reno High School
Registration is at 7:00AM
The race begins at 9:00AM.
This has been a very possitive and successful race over the years. Once you have run in this event you are sure to tell all your friends and family and encourage them to be a part of the race each year after. You won't be disappointed and are sure to have a lot of fun.

Spanish Springs Cal Ripken Baseball
Cal Ripken Baseball in Spanish Springs in fast approaching the end of another great season. We are in our fifth week of play. I say we because my son, Alec, plays for the Astro major team.
This year, nearly 600 children signed up to play ball. Boys and girls from ages 4 to 13 can play in this league. This season there are 14 T-Ball teams, 12 rookie teams, 11 minor teams and 7 major teams.
Currently, the City of Sparks and the league are building new fields for the kids to play on. According to the league president, Jeff Mckusker, the fields should be finished in July 2008. They will be located on Eagle Canyon Parkway. A great location in Spanish Springs. The kids and thier parents won't have to travel far to play and have a great time.
