PRESS RELEASE

(Columbus, GA)-More than 300 schools across Georgia earn awards for improvements in student achievement from the Governor's Office of Student Achievement (GOSA). Four awards go to three schools in the Muscogee County School District.

Under the Single Statewide Accountability System (SSAS), Britt David, Early College Academy and Columbus High School earned the Platinum Award for High Performance on state assessments. Veterans Memorial Middle School won the Gold Award for Greatest Gains. Early College Academy also earned the Silver Award for Greatest Gains.

Platinum Award Criteria

Under SSAS, the Governor's Office of Student Achievement awards schools that show excellence in student achievement and/or progress in student achievement. Award-winning schools must meet the following criteria, which are based on the results of the most recent two years of Criterion Referenced Competency Test (CRCT) (grades 3-8 in reading, English/language arts, math, social studies, and science) and/or the Georgia High School Graduation Test (GHSGT) (grade 11 first time test takers - English/language arts, math, science, and social studies). Criteria are based on Full Academic Year (FAY) students. Both the CRCT and the GHSGT classify achievement in terms of the percent of students who a) do not meet standards, b) meet standards, and c) exceed standards.

Lake Harding Georgia and Alabama Property....Leased vs Deeded lots

Lake Harding has a mix of leased and deeded property. Here are a few facts to know when considering purchasing a home here.

Leased property homes: When you've found your dream home you must make application wih Georgia Power at the Bartletts Ferry Land Management Office in Fortson, GA. GA Power owns the land but leases it to you. You will have a transfer fee of normally $1500 but may be up to $6000 depending upon when the previous owner signed their lease.

The current lease period is 15 years. The yearly lease fee is $900 at this time. Homeowner's also are responsible for their specific county's property tax.

Deeded property homes: With deeded property, Georgia Power owns a strip of and along the waters edge. There is no application until you have closed on the home. There is an access lease of 15 years with a lease fee of $100 per year. There is no transfer fee. Homeowners re responsible for their specific county's property tax.

VA financing continues to be the popular method. Many military families find that the west gate area to Fort Benning brings a little more home for the money.

FHA financing was second, cash sales led conventional financing. This maybe due to investors purchasing foreclosures.
