Fight Gone Bad III was held Saturday September 27th, 2008 and raised over $10,000
This CrossFit Workout, held at the new Central Oregon Cross Fit School of Fitness, proved to be both hard and fun. Fight Gone Bad is a national fundraiser that has raised millions for different causes through Athletes for a Cure.
This year's event raised funds for the Alexis Hlavacek Benefit, a Redmond health and fitness enthusiast who was critically injured in a life-threatening motorcycle accident over the Labor Day holiday.
For each person that participated in the event, The RAC donated $10 each in support of Alexis and her husband Dennis, regular and loyal members of the club.
Joe Lochner of State Farm Insurance also contributed $10 per person. The remander came from additional donations.
40 people showed up to endure "Fight Gone Bad" in an effort to raise over $10,000 for a great cause!

Last week I introduced you to one of our local gathering places, WineStyles of Redmond, which just happens to be in the same complex as my office, Desert Sky Real Estate, LLC. With free wine tasting for Wine Club members, I find myself "next door" once or twice a week.
One of the things I love is the "Cheers" feel you get when you walk through the door. It is a rare occasion that I don't run into local friends and colleagues, or those I have met specifically through my wine tasting and live music adventures.

"The new tagline epitomizes the surprise reaction people exhibit when they learn about Redmond Downtown”, according to city officials and the Redmond Downtown Partnership (RDP). Our little community has undergone many changes of late to improve the usability of our historic downtown shops. A re-route of the heavy traffic of Highway 97 has just been completed and more upgrades to the downtown core, including the widening of sidewalks and restructuring of parking, are under way. "The vision for Redmond Downtown is a place of vitality, energy and excitement. There are now more unique shopping, dining, and businesses," said Camden King, president of the Redmond Downtown Partnership, the organization tasked with marketing the downtown district.

City Care Clinic, located in Redmond, OR, was founded in February of 2006 and provides free health care to patients that:
Currently, the cost of medications, tests, consults and hospital care are the patient’s responsibility, but the clinic is exploring various avenues in an attempt to acquire more support from the medical community to cover the costs of all aspects of health care. Donations and fundraising will also become a big part of funding ancillary services.
City Care Clinic is currently working under the non-profit status of City Center Church of Redmond, OR but is soon to have its own non-profit status. Oversight is provided by CCC’s Board of directors, comprised of community and church volunteers.
The goal of City Care Clinic: to provide health care free of charge in a Christian environment free from financial coercion.
The clinic was initially established as a clinic without walls in the office of Dr. Randy Visser of Internal Medicine Associates of Redmond.
Those involved are very excited at the growth of City Care Clinic and the ability to provide medical services to those who just plain can’t afford them and have no other means of assistance. This is meant to be informative to the residents of the Central Oregon area, but if you are moved to make a financial donation don’t hesitate to let me know!

More About Me (Probably more than you really want to know!)
As a real estate broker in Redmond for the last six years I can honestly say I truly love my job. Sure, we all have those “why do I do this?!” days, but when that day is done, I’m always glad I do what I do. The first brokerage change of my career happened this February when I became partners with a collegue in our new venture, Desert Sky Real Estate, LLC. It was a natural partnership, as we have been covering each other’s business for years in order to feel comfortable taking that much needed time away (and trust me, you REALLY DO need that time away!). Which brings me to what I do when I don’t do real estate.
One of the things I enjoy most in life is travel to other cultures, seeing how other families live. It is an eye opener to see the “homes” of others (sometimes consisting of corrugated roofing as walls or a single room of bamboo and thatch) and realize what a privilege it is to own a home. That frame of reference helps me to fully appreciate the value of owning a comfortable home and drives me to provide the service and care clients deserve in accomplishing that goal. Now more on that travel I mentioned.
Much of my time off involves mission trips to serve others. Each year my husband and I travel to Tijuana, Mexico with our church youth group, sometimes venturing further into remote Mexico to provide health care for nataive Indian tribes. My favorite and most memorable trips by far are to the jungles of Nicaragua to serve the Miskito Indian tribes. This particular trip involves more that can be mentioned here but includes: several days travel down the Rio Coco River in a canoe (well, really a hollowed out tree with a motor stuck to it); hikes through the rain soaked jungle (usually touted as 10 minutes and turning into 2 hours); meals of rice & beans, rice & beans and rice & beans, along with randon "meat parts" (ever been served the "egg shoot" of a chicken?); sleeping in hammocks (this part is actually pretty nice); medical clinics (my husband is an Internal Medicine doctor and in Nicaragua I play “pharmacist”); and really just about anything else that needs to be done. In addition we try to bring some unique fun to the area in the form of movies run by generator (since there is no electricity in the middle of the jungle) or just playing with the local children. For me, a nice healthy mix of work, service to the church, travel for service, and travel for pleasure seems to fit the bill in keeping all aspects of live flowing along. I can’t think of anything more exciting or fulfilling. I would highly recommend it to anyone!
As a real estate professional in Oregon, it is important to me to continually improve my ability to serve you by staying on top of current market trends and by increasing my knowledge base through continuing education. A way of giving back to the community I work in is by joining brainstorming groups to find creative ways to improve the usability of our downtown corridor to increase traffic to local business, thus growing the usability and desirability of our local resources. Support of the communities we live and work in is paramount to the success of those communities.
Community:
On of the most important things we can do as community members is to find a niche to help out in. For me that is helping with the development of future community leaders through mentoring and teaching them how to serve, not only the community they live in, but the communities of others as needs arise. A solid foundation of youth and young adults equals a solid future community.
