EcoBrokers in the City Paper

Interesting article in the City Paper today about the rise of the EcoBroker in Tennessee. Although growth of "green" educated Realtors has been slow, it now seems to be really taking off. Hopefully, we will continue to see growth in the number of Realtors who are educated and qualified to help consumer purchase and sell green homes. We certainly need more educated Realtors who understand the value of green construction and can relay that value to consumers. Click here to read the article.

Nashville's LEED Certified Community

We have known about it for a few months now, but hopefully the dream will be coming true. Builder and developer Parkside homes was supposed to begin pre-sales of homes in Cambridge Park, the first LEED for homes certified community in Middle Tennessee. It is pretty exciting for Nashville to have such an ambitious project, and hopefully it will succeed. If Cambridge Park is a successful development, then we should see more in Nashville. Cambridge Park has a lot of features that you normally see in "green" homes. Efficient appliances, well insulated, etc. The thing that really interests me and hit home was the size of the homes. We are not talking about the same old 5,000 square foot and up homes that we have been seeing built over the last few years. The largest home in the development will be 4 bedrooms and almost 2,200 square feet. It looks like people are beginning to realize that maybe all of the this space is not such a good idea either from the maintenance standpoint or simply the mortgage. I will be excited to see how theses homes are received. Take a look at the Cambridge Park website here.

IT IS NOW EASIER TO FIND GREEN HOMES

In an exciting development for Realtors and home buyers in Middle Tennessee, the Multiple Listing Service (MLS), which is the tool where Realtors list homes for sale, has now added a "Green Features" section. The new Green Features section of the MLS makes it easier for Realtors to search for homes with, of course, green features. The new feature helps Realtors search specifically for green features such as dual flush toilets, and spray foam insulation for example. The list of features in the new MLS section is quite extensive making it remarkably easier to search for specific items. This is definitely a great step in the right direction for the Nashville real estate community.
