Community Gardens in Golden
What does community mean to you? To the people at the Golden Community Garden, that is you... to chat and get to know about you and for you to get to know other gardeners, making a circle of harmony of community. And just watching everyone growing vegetables and/or flowers with mother nature, gives such positive energy. Their goal through the community garden is to enable members of Golden's community to work together to organically grow fruits, vegetables and flowers for our families and our community. The garden will also be a green space where all Golden residents and visitors can enjoy nature's beauty and engage in meaningful conversation. They are seeking volunteers, if you are interested, please call at 720-204-1755.
If you are east of downtown Golden there is also a community garden in your area! Gardeners see the world differently. They also have more positive ratings of physical and mental health. More than 60 residents established a community garden on land owned by Applewood Church. Denver Urban Gardenshas helped them organize this coop of 24 plots of 10x13 feet. Since breaking ground on April 21, the community gardeners have turned this vacant lot into a wonderful garden. They often host open houses throughout the year and also take volunteers. Community gardens promote stronger neighborhood leadership, outreach, and volunteerism, so get involved!! For more information about the Applewood Community Garden, visit the church's website here!

Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in Golden
The origins of quilting are shrouded in mystery, but historians do know quilting was part of the ancient world. Quilts have been found in ancient Egypt and Mongolia, and the Crusades brought quilting to England from the East. The tradition was brought to the America's with all the settlers and the quilting you know today was born. The Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in downtown Golden was the dream of long-time Golden resident Eugenia Mitchell. She wanted her collection to be both seen by the public and preserved for the future. Today, thanks to Eugenia and the hard work of devoted volunteers and generous members, the museum has become a center for the local quilting community and a must-see destination on many a Colorado vacation. In 20 years, the museum has grown into a repository for more than 500 quilts and home to the 3,000-volume Sandra Dallas Library. When you visit the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum, you will explore the scope of quilting, from bedcoverings of the 1800’s to contemporary art pieces. The website notes free-entry days and the staff is helpful, knowledgeable, and passionate without being intrusive. After viewing the amazing quilts you may have a need for a wonderfully warm quilt of your own. Luckily, the museum also sells quilts just in time for the colder weather.
