Long Island Business Helping To Find A Cure (Breast Cancer Fundraiser)

People may or may not be aware that the famous Baldwin family is known on Long Island for more than just their acting abilities.  In 1996, Carol Baldwin, the matriarch of the Baldwin family established the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund, after nearly losing her life to this disease in 1990.  Having been through a double mastectomy herself, Carol Baldwin was determined to help other women that were stricken with Breast Cancer overcome their struggles caused by disease.

According to her website FindACure.org, this research fund has been responsible for 47 research grants totaling $2.35 million.  Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so directly on the website or by calling 1-866-CURE4US.

Donating to a worthy charity such as this is always a good thing to do.  The more that we do as a society the better the chance we have of finding a cure for this horrible disease.  Every little bit helps.  Sometimes, people want to do more than a little, and they step up in a big way to help make a difference.  A local Long Island business owner has decided to do just that.

On Tuesday, October 9, 2007, Diamond Jewelers is presenting its first annual golf outing to benefit the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund.  This event will be held at the Holbrook Country Club in Holbrook, NY.  The golf outing will be followed by dining and an awards ceremony.  Registration begins at 10:30am.  Cocktail hour is at 5:30pm.  The awards dinner is at 6:30pm, featuring raffle tickets and prizes.

The total cost for this event is only $175, and it includes a complete golf package, greens fees, golf carts, range balls, a golf contest, lunch, open bar and awards dinner.  If you'd like to attend the awards dinner only, the cost is $75.  All golfers will receive individual golf-related gift bags for contributing to the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund.

Things To Do On Long Island This Holiday Weekend (10/5 – 10/8)

The Columbus Day Weekend is upon us and there is fun to be had on Long Island to celebrate.  While some may be tempted to stay indoors and take advantage of sales that are going on, many others will want to be outside having fun, enjoying the unseasonably warm weather that we're having.  The forecast is for the weather to be in the 80's for the whole weekend.

So where is a good place to go enjoy some quality time with the family?  How about attending the annual Long Island Fall Festival?  According to the official website for the event for The 2007 Long Island Fall Festival," this event is the largest of its kind in the Northeast, and has become the premiere event for family fun. Brought to you by the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Huntington, this event will attract tens of thousands of families from all over the New York Tri-State area."

The festival features four stages of entertainment, a carnival, arts & crafts vendors, food courts, micro-brew beer and wine tastings, a farmer's market and plenty of activities for kids to do.  There is also an enormous playground inside this 25-acre park.  This has always been something to look forward to for parents and kids alike.  There is no admission charge to enter, but be prepared to spend money on food, games, shopping and the like.

For directions to the park, please click here.  Since this festival is situated inside the Village of Huntington, parking can be a bit challenging.  Plan on leaving a little early if you're going to meet people there, and also get ready to do some walking from your car as you'll likely have to walk a bit to get to the park.  There is also shuttle service available from the Huntington Long Island Railroad Station, and the cost is only $1 for a round trip ticket.  If you choose to drive to the train station, you can park there for free.

If you're further out east on Long Island, and don't wish to travel west for this festival, you may want to consider going to the Riverhead Country Fair.  Riverhead is an up-and-coming area that is going through a bit of a renaissance right now.  If you can't get out to Huntington, this would make a very nice alternative for families living out east.
