Roanoke Island Festival Park Events
Roanoke Island Festival Park is an interactive family attraction that celebrates the first English settlement in America. The centerpiece of the 25-acre island park adjacent to Manteo, North Carolina, is Elizabeth II, a representation of one of the seven English ships from the Roanoke Voyage of 1585. Costumed Elizabethan sailors greet visitors and help them experience sixteenth century seafaring life. Also visit the Settlement site, Roanoke Adventure Museum and see the Legend of Two-Path film. Events are scheduled throughout the year in our indoor Film Theatre and our Outdoor Pavilion. Admission is charged. The on-site Art Gallery, fossil pit, Museum Store, Outer Banks History Center and marsh-side boardwalks are free and open to all. Hours vary seasonally. The Outer Banks Visitors Bureau will once again welcome the North Carolina Symphony to Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo for a free performance for our residents and guests this summer. The 7th Annual Evening Under The Stars is scheduled for Thursday, June 5, 2008 and will feature not only the sophisticated and entertaining direction of resident conductor William Curry and the 68 member orchestra, but a pre-show of local talent presented by the Concert Chorale of the Outer Banks featuring The Forest Warren Chamber Singers and The Children’s Treble Choir of the Outer Banks. It is one way we like to say thank you to all who mean so much to our community and local tourism economy. You will be able to enjoy classical touchstones like Tchaikovsky’s opus from Swan Lake and John Williams’ Olympic Fanfare and Theme but contemporary pieces like Yoda’s Theme from movie The Empire Strikes Back. As always, blankets and portable chairs are welcome along with picnic baskets.
Gates open at 6:00 p.m. with the pre-show starting at 7:00 p.m. The North Carolina Symphony will take the stage at 8:00 p.m. Call the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau at (252) 473-2138 or Roanoke Island Festival Park at (252) 475-1500 for more information. The rain and inclement weather location will be Centennial Pavilion at Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills. Be sure to check out outerbanks.org for the latest travel and weather information the day of the concert.
This Memorial Day looks to be a booming one for the Outer Banks. So far Outer Banks Rentals are up for the season. Memorial Day is traditionally the first full weekend of the season. The traditional holiday weekend holds many activities for locals and vacationers alike. Perhaps my favorite is the Memorial Day, Outer Banks Beach Music Festival. This year's festival lineup looks great. What is a better way to spend your Memorial Day than relaxing in a grass field with some live music?
