DOCTORS SYMPHONY PRESENTS YOUNG PIANISTS IN CONCERT

3:00 pm

Six young winners of the Robert Turner Piano Concerto Competition of the Westside Music Foundation will perform with the Los Angeles Doctors Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ivan Shulman, music director. Each soloist will play a movement of the Beethoven Piano Concerto, No. 1 in C Major or the Saint Saens Piano Concerto , No. 2 in G minor. The Orchestra will also perform "Dream Children" by Edward Elgar.

Musical Adventures with the Definiens Project

On the 2nd Tuesday of each month from February through June, the musicians of Definiens Project will present an interactive Musical Adventure for children and their families. The short musical pieces performed by the musicians are accompanied by participation from the audience. Though designed for elementary school age children, all ages are welcome. This month's selection is "Lesanju the Elephant." This performance is made possible in part by the Culver City Performing Arts Grant Program with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Let Me Tell You About My Boat

"Really, All About Eve"

"Really, All About Eve" is a dance-performance piece presented by Collage Dance Theatre, the premier interdisciplinary dance company of Los Angeles. It is a feminist retelling of the story of Eve, the iconic figure of the world's dominant religions as discoverer, lover, partner, parent and heroine. The historic sacred space of Temple Akiba in Culver City will make for a unique audience experience on March 22 at 4 p.m. Dancers, male and female, are auditioning to be cast for the role of Eve before a panel of judges. The outcome will be debated in a "So You Think You Can Dance," scenario as the human desire to be tested resonating with Eve's "test" in her story. Three local celebrities will act as judges. The dance that ensues tells the story of Genesis from Eve's point of view, will be performed to Daniel Rosenboom's original score emphasizing rhythmic, organic, electronic and Middle Eastern leitmotif. Valentine's Day with the Nucleus Ensemble


Celebrate Valentine's Day by traveling to far away lands with The Definiens Project in the second concert of their 2008 Culver City Crescent series. The Nucleus Ensemble will perform their "Landscapes" program on Sunday, February 10, 2008 at 3pm at the Culver Hotel in Culver City, CA.

Admission: $10 General; $5 Student; Children Free.

The Nucleus Ensemble will perform the following works:

  • Prairie Etudes by Brooke Joyce

  • Vox Balaenae by George Crumb



Prefacing the concert will be a FREE interactive family-based Musical Adventure beginning at 2pm, at which attendees will learn about music fundamentals and participate in the creation of a piece to be performed in the concert.

There will also be a surprise treat for the audience during the performance.

The Definiens Project is a chamber music presenting organization dedicated to building new chamber music audiences. Through engaging concerts and workshops, The Definiens Project has attracted hundreds of people who had never previously attended a chamber or classical music performance; many are now regular audience attendees.

This performance is made possible in part by a grant from the City of Culver City Art in Public Places Fund with support from the Sony Pictures Entertainment Platinum Sponsorship and is generously hosted by the Culver Hotel.
