Need More Time, More Business, More Money - How To Break The Vicious Cycle of Declining Sales

Does this sound familiar?

When was the last time you examined your business plan?Everything about business is so much harder than it was a year or two ago. Clients are more scarce. The ones that are out there are hesitant to buy. Each transaction requires so much more work than it used to. I feel like I have to baby sit each and every deal. This is killing my productivity.

Yes, I know I need to get out there and network and expand, but I just don't have the time. Each one of these deals takes longer and longer to close. Developing relationships is a lot of work, it doesn't happen over night. By the time I get these deals closed, I don't know what I'm going to do about my pipeline for next month.

Yes, I've heard blogging can help my business, but that takes so much time! When am I going to find the time to blog when I'm stretched to the max to convert the sales I have. With as long as everything takes to complete, I need more volume to compensate, but I don't know how I would handle more volume, because I can barely handle the deals that I have.

Yes I know a lot of people turn to the internet to research before making a purchase decision, but it takes a lot of time to build up a presence on the internet. Besides I have clients. I have about 15 of them that are sitting back cooling their heels, watching the market, and deciding when they want to jump in. I just don't have time for these "long term" internet strategies to grow new clients, I can barely get anything done as it is. Wow, this month is going to be tight! I need more closings!

Vicious, but what are the variables?I'm surprised at how often I hear these or similar comments that seem to go in circles as business owners describe the pressure that their under that prevents them from doing more to promote their business and grow it, while simultaneously complaining about how bad their business is.

I'm also surprised how many people can go on and on this way without realizing what a vicious circle they've gotten into. Although these types of problems are common, they are not insurmountable.

If you can relate, I suggest you take a detailed look at how you spend your time. Sometimes as business owners, we become compulsive in our need to control every aspect of our business. It's time for the realization that your businesses survival rests on your shoulders, but that all the daily grunt work may not need to.

Try to find a creative way to delegate the more trivial, time consuming tasks that you have to someone else. Your focus should be setting appointments and presenting your product and service. Those are the activities that drive your business and make you money. You are the captain of your brand, how can you be branding if you're putting in 40 hours a week as your own secretary?

Do something!Examine every minute of your day. Finding wasted minutes here and there translate into new available hours that you can spend in highly productive activities. Find ways to multiply your efforts. One on one marketing is great and very effective, but depending on the type of business you have, you may need to be able to get the word out to many people with a single message. There are many ways to do this, from email newsletters, to blogging, to public speaking, to business networking groups, etc.

Let technology help you. You don't have to send out your email newsletter 1 at a time. Research Mail Merging, or mass email services such as Constant Contact to simplify this type of big time consuming project. Blogging has the potential to connect you to thousands (perhaps more) of people. Hopefully you're not waiting to get started. Networking is essential, but can you accomplish more in less time? Websites like Facebook and Twitter offer lots of networking opportunities. If you find them to be more social than business, business networking groups such as LinkedIn might be an option for you. If LinkedIn seems to be too big to be productive, The Value Pages Group could be a good match for you. It connects local businesses in an online forum that allows for instantaneous connections, interaction, and relationship development around shared business goals.

Whatever you choose to do, it's essential that you DO SOMETHING. You can't afford to wait. You must will yourself not to be a victim of your business and find the energy and creativity to reorganize what you do to allow you to focus on what you do best.
