I had an interesting conversation with a good friend a few days ago. She has been renting a condo from a mutual friend. Her plan is to find a bigger place to rent, get a roommate and save some money to buy her own home. I followed her thought process and wanted to do whatever I could to help her. 
There are lots of online resources for rentals in the Middle Tennessee area but she couldn't find the right place that would give her the space she needs, allow her to stay near her job and keep her daughter in a certain school. She wanted me to look at houses that are available for sale and see if there were remarks in the listing that indicate the owners would consider renting the home. After scouring the Nashville Area MLS, I came to a few conclusions.
I wasn't trying to be negative but this conversation did bring up several things that my friend hadn't thought about. My point was this... she has a pretty sweet situation renting from someone she trusts. I would love to see her save to buy a home but consider options carefully!

This weekend I was at The Cloister at St. Henry in Nashville showing every available 2 bedroom, 2 bath flat style condo unit. This was my buyer's first trip to view the independent living community for people age 55 and over.
My client has been content renting a little apartment for many years. At the request of her son, she gradually became open to looking at condominiums. By the end of our scheduled showings, she was excited about the idea of moving into her own condo. She enthusiastically gave her favorite condos a ranking of 1, 2 and 3. Why is she so excited about The Cloister? It has everything she is looking for: 
2 bedroom flat condo with few or no stairs
Laundry room in the condo
Attached garage
The Cloister is located on the west side of Nashville between Highway 70 (Harding Pike) or Highway 100 off of Vaughns Gap Road. Access is also available from St. Lukes Drive off of Highway 70. The Cloister is convenient to Belle Meade, West Meade, Green Hills, Forest Hills and Bellevue and is located in the 37205 zip code.
At this time, there are seven different 2 bedroom, 2 bath units available. All 2 bedroom units have a one-car garage. Available 2 bedroom condos are priced under $170,000 and range in size from about 1,250 to 1,400 square feet. There are some larger units in The Cloister that include 3 bedrooms and a two-car garage.
The Cloister has a monthly association fee of $250. This fee covers maintenance to pool and club house, exterior maintenance, grounds maintenance, insurance on the building, trash pickup, sewer and basic cable.

The Cloister includes sidewalks on one side of each street, street lights and underground utilities. While we were visiting, it was quiet outside and we could heard the birds chirping. We saw residents walking and spending time outside.
