Lots of hysteria has been in the news recently regarding Swine Flu.
Symptoms of H1N1 Influenza include:
Fever, headache, cough, sore throat, runny of stuffy nose,
fatigue, muscle aches. nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
Deaths:
5,382 worldwide in 160 countries
2,659 in South America.
So what are the odds?

Death by...
Assault: 331:1
Falling: 250:1
Firearm: 325:1
Poison: 1,400:1
Car crash: 5,000:1
Choking on food: 5,000:1
Drowning: 9,000:1
Murder: 20,000:1
Lightning: 71,000:1
Dog attack: 137,000:1
Bathtub: 807,000:1
Flood: 713,000:1
Terrorist attack: 6,000,000:1
Based on current world populations and reported deaths:
H1N1: 1,900,000:1
That's right, you're at greater risk
killing yourself by slipping in a bath tub.
Here's some other facts:
Regular run-on-the-mill influenza kills 35,000 Americans each year.
Bird Flu, which was supposed to wipe us out, killed 262.
SARS was supposed to kill millions; it killed 167 up to 2003.
A friend of mine, (a physicist), and his wife (who has a Masters degree in medicine), twigged me on to a natural remedy for the Swine Flu.

This is wild oregano.
Studies in Georgetown, Cornell and Tennessee to name a few
have been testing the benefits of oregano, and have found it
to be a potent antimicrobial, antifungal and antiviral.
Apparently, it rivals antibiotics such as
Streptomycin, Penicillin and Vacnomycin.
This is not your garden-variety oregano though,
it must be wild mountain oregano oil
grown in the Mediterranean.
I WAS going to get the vaccine,
now I'm re-thinking that.

There's a second part to this, which I'll post next week.
It's called "Who Profits?"

This is a true story. A case currently wending its way
through the Canadian justice system has caused outrage.
Here are the facts: Anthony Bennett, 51, and a crack addict,
has a criminal record spanning 33 years. One of Bennett's tricks
was to ride his bicycle from store to store stealing things for re-sale
to support his habit. One particular day, he returned to the
Lucky Moose Market to help himself to expensive
plants. This was his second visit on the same day.
David Chen, owner of the market, had had enough.
He and 3 of his employees, gave chase, caught the thief,
hog-tied him and locked him in a van. They then called
the police. The upshot of this whole scenario was this.
Bennett, pleaded out in August. It should be pointed out
that this was a mere 3 months after a previous arrest for theft.
David Chen on the other hand, has been charged with "Forcible Confinement"
and having a concealed weapon. (he had a box cutter clipped to his belt, and there
there is no suggestion that he threatened to use it).

Now here's the kicker:
Bennett received a light sentence because,
"in his capacity as a victim", poor fellow, he has agreed
to be "a Crown Witness" and testify against Mr. Chen
for the proscecution.
Years ago, a very talented young man came into an
agents office and asked to be represented. He was funny, talented and good looking.
The agent asked his name and he replied, "Peenus van Lesbian". The agent explained
to him that he would love to represent him, but the name had to go if he was to make it in
Hollywood. Well, the guy refused. This was his name and he was sticking with it.
Years later, the agent got a letter with a cheque for $50,000. What the hell?
The letter read: "Years ago, I came into your office wanting to become an
actor in Hollywood. You advised me to change my name, and I refused.
You told me I would never amount to anything with a name like
Peenus van Lesbian. After I left your office, I thought about
what you said. I decided you were right; I had to change
my name. I had too much pride to return to your office,
so I signed with another agent. I would have never
made it without changing my name, so the cheque
I have enclosed is a token of my appreciation.
Thank you for your advice,
Sincerely, Dick van Dyke.

"Three things for getting success:
Know more than other, work more than other, expect less than other".
William Shakespeare
Me? I come across problems every day in almost everything,
and I solve them, so, I'm pretty sure I'm on the right path.
I disagree with Bill though; I know more than other,
and I work more than other,
but,
I EXPECT MORE THAN OTHER.

Monday's don't have to be like this;
let's try something different.
When I saw this I was reduced to tears...
...of laughter. Hope you get off to a good start this week.

The devil made me do it.
HERE COMES THE DEVIL.

I might make this a weekly feature
just to get you all going.
