Pell City Voters in Pell City must cast their votes at the Pell City Civic Center. In the mayor’s race, Bill Hereford and Joe Funderburg have qualified to run for that office. In the City Council District 1 matchup, Bob Watson is challenging incumbent Councilman Greg Gossett. In the Council District 2 race, former Councilman James McGowan will challenge J.T. Carter for the seat. Dot Wood and David Crane are challenging incumbent Councilman Ed Pennington for the District 3 seat. In the District 4 race, incumbent Councilman Donnie Todd is being challenged by Sharon Thomas. Donnie Guinn will face former Mayor and Councilman Mack Abercrombie for the District 5 council seat. Pell City Board of Education member Mike Price is being challenged for his District 4 spot on the board by Joel Day. School board members Cecil Fomby, David Murphy, Dr. Eric Hicks and Norman Wilder will remain on the board unchallenged.

Take Back Our Highways

State troopers wrote 14,995 tickets during the first four days of their Take Back Our Highways campaign, which ends Sunday. Almost half the tickets, 6,123, were for speeding; 307 were for tailgating and 141 for improper lane change. Troopers have targeted aggressive and impaired driving during the blitz. There have been 77 arrests for DUI and 334 other arrests for non-traffic offenses. There have been 275 crashes during the blitz, which began Monday, and four highway deaths. Alabama Department of Public Safety truck inspectors had checked 402 vehicles through Thursday. Troopers assisted 373 motorists..

Housing Fair to Become Annual Event

This years housing fair that occured a week ago today was such a hit organizers are going to make it an annual event, next year i think they should go to a two day event on Friday and Saturday instead of this years Friday only.This year’s event featured The Yacht Club, a new development on Logan Martin Lake in Pell City, but there were a wide variety of booths, with attorneys, insurance agents, mortgage lenders, bankers, insurance agencies, gift stores and construction companies. The event also had paint, tile and carpet stores, marinas and even a lake dock and pier construction company.

New Lincoln City Park Grand Opening this Saturday

The Lincoln Park Grand Opening is at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23. The new park features four baseball fields, three softball fields, a soccer and/or football field, two playgrounds, two batting cages, a concession stand and restrooms. Future plans for the park include a nature/walking trail, and improvements will continue to be made throughout the year.
