One of my favorite places to eat. 5th Ave Cafe...yep you guessed it on 5th Ave- 116 East to be exact.

Leigh Love is the proud owner of 5th Ave and has much to smile about. She strives everyday to bring you the freshest and organic food. There is great atmosphere, great food and great service!
Leigh, a Mount Dora resident, is active in the community as a member of the Mount Dora Merchants Association, and a Board Member of the Mount Dora Area Chamber of Commerce.
Downtown Mt. Dora has such unique charm you will fall in love and many do in just one visit. There are quaint antique shops, wonderful little coffee and ice cream shops and the views walking around this distinct little town will take you back in time.

5th Ave serves food without chemicals, dyes, pesticides or unwanted additives. Simply put, food the way it used to be! Their menus change often, reflecting the freshest ingredients available from their growers & suppliers.
5th Avenue Café takes great pride and care in using only the purest, freshest, natural and organic (wherever possible) ingredients in all of their offerings.
Each menu item is made to order to ensure your quality dining experience. The water is reverse osmosis and triple-filtered for your enjoyment and served upon request.
Here are a few items you might see on the menu- delicious!

Yes, you read that right, I spent 12 hours in a cop car, blue lights, sirens and all. Thank goodness it wasn't in the back or with handcuffs on...I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much.
The Lake County Sheriff's Department holds twice a year what is called The Sheriff's Citizen's Academy. It is 13 week course. Classes are one night a week. Each week different departments come in and in detail explain and talk about their job. You learn about how fingerprinting and blood splatter work through Crime Scene. You watch and learn about the K-9 (that was one of my favorites). You can also take a quick ride on the driving course--I opted not to do that- my dinner would probably have ended up in the driver's lap. We walked through the jail- saw some scary inmates and toured the courthouse. This coming week, we will visit and learn about the helicopters.
It is so informative and interesting and I am so glad my husband talked me into going. He is a deputy, but has been off of the road for quite some time now. He used to be in crime scene and was quite the blood splatter expert, so he knew all about what I would be learning. He teaches D.A.R.E. to 5th graders in the Elementary Schools now and loves it. There is also a class that gives information on that. The program is free and I suggest that if you have something like this in your area...you definatley won't regret signing up.
Now, for the best part....you can sign up to do a ride a long with a deputy for a whole shift. I chose to ride with an old Seargent of my husband's. So, I met with him at 6pm and he gave me a vest to wear. I wanted to ask for a helmet too, but, bit my tongue and put my seatbelt on. Sgt. Ross, had many deputies under him in a section of the county. We ended up going from one side of the county to the other all night. With blue lights flashing and sirens going we were all over the place.
It was kind of funny watching the "civilians" try to get out of the way when we came up behind them. I felt bad for some- because I am normally in their place. People tend to sometimes panick and not move out of the way...they just stopped in the middle of the road and we had to manuever around. I met a lady who completely had lost it and ended up at a medical center in just her underwear. There were a few fights and car chases- so the night was pretty full.
From 6pm to 6am....what a night! I almost didn't want it to end, however, the lack of sleep was getting to me. I thanked Sgt. Ross for allowing me to ride a long with him and went home to fall right into bed.
I just cannot say enough how great an experience this was. I have one more class this week and then we will have a big graduation ceremony and I will get a Certificate.
Check your local Sheriff's Office and get ready for the ride of your life....you will not only learn great information but you will have a lot of fun and maybe meet someone in their underwear.
