There's a saying that when you want to get something done, you need to ask a busy person. As most of the folks who've contributed photos are small business owners, busy juggling many responsibilities, I'd like to say thanks and recognize them with their respective businesses ... and especially the 2 Active Rainers who have contributed content.
It's important to take some time to have a little fun and I especially want to thank the small business owners, all in NH, who've made a little extra time to enter my photo content. Someone is going to win 2 free hours of handyman service or a $50 gift certificate from Home Depot/Lowes.
Details on my Nuts & Bolts blog, open to all Active Rainers and anyone else who wants to leave a comment with photo here or on my blog. You have until midnight, 10/31 to submit your photos.
What an interesting experience this ... so let's see what happens.
More people are finding my web site and blog, and I've started getting some interesting requests for help. I have a client on the NH Seacoast, but she actually is looking for someone in the Belmont, NH area to scrape and paint a deck. I've come up with a few ideas but not an ideal solution as my contacts don't go that far.
I decided I would try blogging here at ActiveRain to see if there's someone (realtor possibly) in the Belmont, NH area who can recommend someone for this job?

We have a special treat this spring, a family of Morning Doves. It's funny that I'm thinking I should describe the house like a listing but then I've never written up a listing as I'm not a realtor ... so let me try for fun.

Spring is approaching and many homeowners are considering whether to refinish hardwood floors before they put their home on the market. As the owner of My Handyman, I've learned that you really want to call in the professionals for this job. I learned my lesson the hard way by trying 2 jobs myself, with rental equipment. Unfortunately noone using this equipment cares about it, and combined with unfamiliarity (remember every car reacts a little different), the jobs didn't go well ... and I paid for another company to redo our work.
Now I partner with flooring companies to deliver this service for my best customers (we handle moving the furniture, removing carpeting on the stairs, etc.). When one of my clients asked that I check in at the house each day to monitor the work ... I decided to take photos each day, and tell the story.

Refinishing Hardwood Floors, A Photo Story (days 1 & 2 online now, and continuing through early next week), is a great resource to help sellers decide if they want to include this project in preparing their home for sale. It takes a full week and by the end of my photo story, you'll see that it is worth it.
Shaw's Supermarkets has come up with an innovative way to keep them top of mind. Many in NH are well aware that we get coupons to save $0.10, $0.20, etc off our gas at Irving, based on the size of our Shaw grocery bill. They also let you register your Shaws card, with pre-defined donation allocations to non-profits you want to support (up to 4 of them).
I've been supporting Habitat for Humanity for several years. Today I received an invitation to sign up and donate a percentage of my grocery receipts from Shaws (or Star Market in Massachusetts). The process was a little cumbersome but you only have to do it once. Here's what Cheryl Van Allen, Executive Director of the Southeast NH Habitat for Humanity, sent out via Facebook this morning ...

"The Shaw's Rewards program has CHANGED - and it's now easier than ever to participate, and have a portion of your grocery bill go to helping Habitat eliminate poverty housing. The cool part? We no longer need to collect the paper receipts!!! Anyone, anywhere, can do it!! It is SO easy...here's what you do:
Only purchases made on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday are eligible. So - you're gonna shop anyway, and between getting Irving gas points, and now THIS? Go on - it's a great way to give back.
Building houses, building hope - one volunteer, one family, one house at a time."
