THE NAVY AT TINKER AFB, OK????

Oklahoma ?????? Right in the middle of the United States....They don't connect to the Navy for obvious reasons. But hold on, as I am going to tell you about the Navy and Tinker AFB, OK . TACAMO is a Navy Air Wing fully integrated on an Air Force Base, carrying out missions in joint operations with the Air Force. On October 1, 1998 - the U.S Navy's fleet of E-6Bs replaced the EC-135s in performing the "Looking Glass" mission flown for over 29 years by the U.S Air Force. This new mission carries a battle staff that now flies with the TACAMO crew. TACAMO commands moved from six different homeports to a central location: TINKER AFB, OK. The result is a 25 percent reduction on operations and personnel expenses. Over 1300 active duty sailors, 100 contractors and 5 DOD civilians work out of Tinker AFB, OK to accomplish the TACAMO mission. These dedicated Sailors and Civilians working together as a team to provide logistic support for the Navy's E-6B Mercury aircraft fleet. These Sailors maintain around the clock alert operations requiring tremendous dedication, effort and many sacrifices. The Navy personnel are here to provide maintenance, security, operations, administration, training and logistic support for the Navy’s E-6B Mercury aircraft fleet housed at Tinker AFB, OK . WAIT FIVE MINUTES AND IT'LL CHANGE

Imagine you arrived here last week from out of state, or back to CONUS from overseas via PCS to Tinker AFB, OK . You were pleasantly surprised how beautiful the weather in Oklahoma was, and it was between 55 and 60 degrees in the middle of January. Then the following week it is 19 degrees, icing, snow and freezing and the whole state of Oklahoma is shutting down from bad weather, the schools, government offices, businesses.....etc... According to the weather forecast we will be back in the late 50 to 60 degrees again next weekend. As you can see what they mean when they say " In Oklahoma if you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes and it'll change". And that's where we are now folks in Oklahoma.

IT'S THE TOUGHEST JOB IN THE AIR FORCE

" AIR FORCE WIFE - IT'S THE TOUGHEST JOB IN THE AIR FORCE" - Indeed it is, I still remember as if it was yesterday. A week before my husband left for TDY or deployed somewhere. We sat down with our two young daughters and talked to them about the anticipated trips Dad was going to take. There were many questions to answers, such as WHY? Can you tell your boss to wait until after my basketball game? HOW long you are going to be gone? WHEN are you coming back? My bicycle needs new brakes.....etc... Then it was time to take Dad to the terminal and say good bye. During my husband's career I must have done that over 100 or more times, but ones never get used to that. There were butterflies in my stomach everytime I dropped him off at the terminals, and the kids hugged and kissed him good bye and boo hoo all the way back home. Wow, that was the hardest part. Anyway, if you are stationed here or getting ready to PCS to Tinker AFB, OK. Don't forget to check out the Airman & Family Readiness Center, located in building 6001 at Tinker AFB. They have all kind of funs and support programs for you and your children to participate in while your spouses are on deployments. Come and check it out. If you need more information, send me an Email or give me a call and I'll send them out to you. Believe me I know how you feel and my empathy to you and your families.
