Redesign + More supporting "Green" Homes in Charlotte, NC.

Staged homes need to be updated before they can be sold, therefore this can create a lot of waste. Not to mention if you are doing a home redesign or complete home makeover you can still create a lot of waste on these projects too. Here’s a list of "Green" tips for you to keep the environment in mind when preparing your home to sell or if you are working on a home redesign project.

Habitat For Humanity

* Recycle by making donations of unwanted furniture, appliances, building materials, home accessories, antiques and more to a Habitat for Humanity Restore. These items are then sold at the ReStore at a fraction of their retail value and the money raised helps support the mission of Our Towns Habitat. Further, they keep hundreds of tons of reusable materials from landfills, therefore benefiting our environment.

Energy Star

* Recycle packaging materials from new product purchases.

* New appliance purchases should come with ENERGY STAR specifications.

* Recycle all your old wire hangers back to your drycleaner.

* Replace burnt out light bulbs in the home with ENERGY STAR qualified light bulbs.

Color your world happy by mixing color and pattern for home decorating.

Color your world happy by mixing color & pattern for your Home Decorating projects.

1. Give a beautiful print even more significance by doing a whole room makeover in it, from the walls to the upholstery. This technique can work wonderfully in a child's room, where you can hand-paint items like drawer knobs or bedposts to coordinate with the pattern, and decorate furnishings with wallpaper details.

2. It's easy to add interest to a neutral room using pattern. The trick to maintaining a restful decor is to make sure that you keep your palette neutral and use just a few simple patterns balanced with one or two solid fabrics.

3. Make a bold statement in a room by upholstering furnishings in colorful solids. This is also an effective way to show off their nice curves and lines. For an elegant look, choose two complementary colors and play with textured fabrics like velvet, faux suede and leather, and introduce pattern with small accessories. Keep the backdrop of the room neutral so the furnishings command attention.

4. A small space like a hallway is a wonderful place to experiment with pattern. And you don't need to do much, either: hang a wallpaper in a classic pattern like a stripe or lay a simple, colorful floor tile underfoot.

5. Layering is key to successfully mixing patterns and colors. Limit yourself to three or four patterns with one color tying them together. For example, if you pick a predominantly red pattern for a chair or sofa, make sure to incorporate red as an accent in the other patterns or solids on drapes, throw cushions, a rug or even artwork in a room.

So don't be afraid of mixing pattern and colors. Color your world happy with patterns and color for all your home decorating projects. As a Professional Home Decorator, it's important to pull you room together by using patterns and color, this way you are guarantee a beautiful decorated home.

A graceful combination of pattern, texture and color can add dimension to your home.

Set the Stage with Paint Colors for your home resale.

Set the Stage with Paint Colors for your home resale. Let Tonia Mosteller Professional Home Stager with Redesign + More help you choose the best paint colors to use when selling your home. We offer several Home Staging packages and providing service in Charlotte, NC and surrounding counties.

One of the most important rules of thumb when you're preparing your home for sale is to look at it from a buyer's point of view, not just from your own. Nowhere is that truer than in the wall colors you choose for your home. You may love strong colors and have very stylish interior decor that goes with them, but color can present several drawbacks when it comes to resale of your home.

As Charlotte, NC Home Stager Tonia Mosteller shares, "Color adds a lot of personality to an environment -- which is good and bad. If a buyer is very visual, they can see beyond a certain color; but if they aren't, the color can distract, making it hard for them to visualize themselves in the room."

Of course, I don't mean you should always paint all the rooms boring beige before you put your house on the market. In fact, that could conceivably have the opposite effect, making a house seem plain-Jane (especially if it's limited in architectural detail or is under-furnished). The ideal, is to choose colors with just the right touch of life to them: neutral enough to present a blank canvas, but interesting enough to add some character. As a professional home stager in Charlotte, NC here are a couple of my favorites paint colors, both for resale and for very livable interiors in general..

"Putty-grey-beigey-taupe to be a very neutral, non-competitive color, but it also adds a certain depth and character that brings out the beauty of the home, rather than merely acting as a backdrop. Also, it allows you to use accents in stronger colors and still maintain a classic look."

"Grey is very trendy right now, especially warm grays like this one. It's especially beautiful in townhouses, with architectural detail picked out in white trim, like cornice and crown moldings, or marble. It's a very sophisticated color, and classic settings like this seem to suit it better than modern or too-bright settings, which might make it look cold."

* Swatch color may appear different on some monitors.

Remember, just because you are preparing your home for resale doesn't mean you have to use boring and plain paint colors.......

Beauty in North Carolina Linville Gorge and Lake James.

~ Linville Gorge ~

The Grand Canyon of North Carolina

Nothing is so beautiful as the Pisgah National Forest in NC, when you travel to North Carolina you must take a drive to Linville Gorge and take in the breathtaking view. You will also see a view of Lake James from this mountain range. If you continue to drive past Linville Falls....which you must stop and see before you continue up the dirt road go past the falls parking entrance and continue on the road. You will come to a fork in the road and will see a sign for Linville Gorge on the left continue and park on the left in the gravel parking lot. You can take a nice stroll down the paved sidewalks all the way out to the edge of the mountain and view this beautiful landscape from the stone balconies.

Remember that fork on the dirt road, well if you go right...BEWARE you need a vehicle that can handle itself along the mountain top but once you start the view is amazing. This road actually comes out at the base of Lake James. If you have a 4 wheel drive you must take this dirt road across the mountain top, simply beautiful. Enjoy!

Lake James - Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Western North Carolina, Lake James offers residents a relaxing pace of life, as well as a never-ending array of outdoor activities in mountain land so beautiful it was chosen as the location of the motion picture, “The Last of the Mohicans.” When you look at this photo, look in the distance at Table Rock and you will see the opening of Linville Gorge.

Lake James offers residents a moderate and inviting climate, easy access for boating and fishing and close proximity to an attractive selection of state and national parks such as Linville Gorge, South Mountains State Park and Pisgah National Forest. This lake covers over 6,500 acres and offers more than 150 miles of shoreline.

Lake James residents enjoy quaint main street communities and historic downtowns in Morganton, Marion, Valdese and nearby Hickory, where community celebrations are a regular occurrence. And, when it’s time to expand your area of exploration and discovery, Lake James is ideally located. Snow skiing in the Appalachian Mountains is also just a short drive a from Lake James, and major metropolitan areas such as Charlotte, N.C., Winston-Salem, N.C., and Columbia, S.C., are within a three-hour drive.
