Giving Thanks.....

What a beautiful day here in the Carolina's and I am so thankful and blessed to wake to such a wonderful Thursday. We love spending time on Lake James and enjoy the amazing views, it's our place to enjoy all of God's creations. If you want a beautiful place to visit you must take a drive to Lake James, in North Carolina. I am so thankful for my husband, family, friends and my clients. Nothing is better then waking up to your family and hearing their voices. What a feeling to know you have another day to make someone smile.

Wisdom is the sharing of wise experiences and knowledge, but a lot of it is common sense. The difference is how we apply this common sense - we all have the ability to keep going even when we face challenges in our lives - basically it comes down to your attitude.

We can have a positive attitude towards life, or a negative attitude. We can focus on the good or we can focus on the bad. Keeping a positive mental attitude is one of the keys to success.
The choice is always up to you!

I found this beautiful story on the web about Thanksgiving and had to share with everyone. I could not speak the words any better then you will read below... beautifully stated.

Thought For The Day

Thanksgiving or Thanksliving

by Catherine Pulsifer

Thanksgiving has always been for me a time to be thankful for all the blessings in my life. But how do we live thanksgiving? I found the answer to that question in an article written by Wilfred A. Peterson called, The Art of Thanksgiving. In this article he talks about acts of thanksliving. To quote from this piece, Mr Peterson writes:

"The art of thanksgiving is thanksliving. It is gratitude in action. It is applying Albert Schweitzer's philosophy: 'In gratitude for your own good fortune you must render in return some sacrifice of your life for the other life.'"

The article goes on to give examples of what how we could live in a thanksliving way:

- By living your life triumphantly
- By being grateful for all who have helped you by you doing things for others
- By striving to make others happy
- By helping to be an inspiration to others
- By living each day to the fullest
- By using your talents and obligations to be invested for the common good
- By facing the challenges of life as a challenge for achievement
- By enjoying what you have and sharing it with others

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for all we have,
but thanksliving is a way of life that if implemented could improve the quality of life not only for you and me, but for others. Do you live in a thanks giving way?

Wishing everyone a fabulous weekend, may it be filled with lots of laugther and joy.

Quote for the day.....

Be thankful every morning when you get up
that you have something to do that day which must be done,
whether you like it or not." ~ Charles Kingsley

Home Decorating small spaces in Charlotte, NC.

Living in an apartment, a condo, or even a small house in Charlotte, NC doesn't mean you have to go without storage and decorate your home. At Redesign + More we understand that any space can look beautiful even if it is in a small space.
  • Use adhesive hooks. If you can’t use hammers and nails, try hanging your pictures on plastic hooks that come with super-strength adhesive. When you move out, simply pull off the adhesive, and leave the wall intact.
  • Buy extra closet rods. Apartments aren’t known for their spacious, walk-in closets. In fact, they’re known for tiny ones. Deal with this problem by purchasing an extra adjustable rod to place underneath the existing one.
  • Maximize storage. Hide household items by storing them under your bed. You can use cement blocks to give your bed some height, and then cover them with a longer bed skirt, making room for boxes, books, and other storage items.
  • Use a reversible bedspread. To keep your decor fresh and new, try a reversible bedspread. Whenever you get tired of one look, flip it over the next time you make up your bed.
  • Find multifunctional furniture. Nothing saves space like multifunctional furniture. Whenever you shop for your new apartment, try to find flexible items such as futons, which can serve as both couches and beds.
  • Try mirror tricks. Opening up a cramped space can require a few illusions. Placing large mirrors around a room can make it appear larger and much more spacious than reality.
  • Decorate with plywood. Many apartment policies prohibit repainting, so an easy way to add life to your home is to paint or wallpaper large pieces of plywood any color you wish, and then simply lean them against the walls. Just make sure the plywood fits the space.
  • Add color with curtains. Try hanging curtains on your walls, as if you were concealing a nook or extra room. This creates the illusion that the apartment is bigger than it actually is, and it adds a little pizazz to the decor.
  • Let there be light. Some policies won’t allow residents to alter their light fixtures, so if you want more light, you will have to bring it with you when you move in. Find interesting lamps that add charm and personality to your rooms.
  • Let walls be a canvas. Another solution for bare walls is to cover them up with over-sized canvases or posters. Found online or in craft stores, they allow you to drape your apartment in simple, solid colors or in wild, intense designs.
  • Try wall decals. It might seem a bit elementary, but cling stickers can brighten up a bathroom or kitchen. Home improvement and superstores carry a variety of fun and bright stickers such as flowers, polka dots and chic silhouettes. They can give a room a little whimsy without damaging a surface.
  • Rotate knickknacks. Sometimes, what makes a home are the little items we attach to precious memories, and apartments can’t always hold them all. Leave your place simple and uncluttered by rotating these treasures and displaying only a few per month.
  • Choose accents wisely. Even if you choose to keep the original wall colors, accents and accessories can easily spruce up your rooms. Add decorative throw pillows, rugs, and lamps that reflect your own personal style and create a homey space without upsetting your landlord.

So keep in mind no matter how small your space is, remember every room can be decorated in your home. Sometimes in these spaces you have to think outside the box. Most importantly don't forget to add your style and your personality in your space. Happy Decorating!

Size matters when selecting furniture.

Size matters when selecting furniture.....we have wonderful furniture stores in Charlotte, Hickory and Highpoint NC that you can visit and select furniture that will fit into your home redesign project.

When I'm working on a home redesign or interior design project, I make sure to mention to my clients that size does matter when selecting furniture. You must visit a furniture store and test drive your furniture before you invest money to purchase it. Make sure there are comfortable places to sit. When doing a home redesign in your rooms consider the height of yourself and your spouse when looking for furniture for your room. Example ~ If your husband is tall, make sure there’s a chair with a deep enough seat for his legs. Decorate with a man’s larger frame and seating habits in mind. If he likes to put his feet up, put an ottoman table in front of his favorite chair. When buying a sofa, think about how you will sit or lie on it.. As I mentioned before it's important to "Test Drive" your furniture in the store just like you would if you were at home. You don't buy a car with out test driving it first do you?

So remember size does matter when selecting furniture and so some research before you invest your money.

Home Staging starting at the curb in Charlotte, NC.

Are you thinking fall is the time to pull up the for sale sign and wait until spring? At Redesign + More in Charlotte, NC we think it’s time to set the Stage for your home and add the curb appeal before winter weather appears and make sure your home is ready to compete for buyers’ attention. Typically winter brings fewer buyers to the market place, but these buyers are generally more serious and focused on buying a home.

As a homeowner or investor with a property for sale you need to have enthusiastic buyers making offers in order to see maximum gains. Enthusiastic buyers and Realtors will result in a higher selling price in a much shorter period of time.

Short on time and money these days? Here are some ideas that don't take a lot of time and doesn't break your bank. Your landscaping can have fabulous appeal all winter long by taking a few extra steps now!

Walk slowly past your house from both directions. What stands out the most? The faded paint on the garage door? A mailbox that hangs askew? Dead grass and patches of dusty, bare ground? The goal is to fix and replace the things that will show the greatest return on your investment.

Even more important is knowing the right type of repairs that can add thousands to the selling price of your house for......

There are a number of ways to enhance your home's appearance by setting the stage, from smaller tasks such as weeding and mowing the lawn, to larger projects such as an exterior remodeling project.
It's well known that potential buyers make up their minds in the first few minutes of seeing a home. How your home presents itself from the road can actually make or break the sale.

  • Rich lush lawn Those thin areas can be beautiful quickly by reseeding now. With the warm days and cool nights seed will germinate quickly and the lawn can be established with less watering and care.
  • Time to take care of those dandelions and weeds! Weeds germinate in the fall so by applying weed and feed over the yard there will be fewer dandelions in the spring. Clear flower beds of weeds now and avoid their growth through the winter months. We use a pre-emergent product after we weed which helps reduces weed germination. Our flower beds in the spring now take a few minutes not hours.
  • Colorful leaves are beautiful on the trees, but once strewn on your lawn decrease your home’s visual appeal. They can damage lawns and become slippery on walkways. Remove leaves quickly.
  • Remove overgrown or straggly plants. Take a hard look at your landscape. Shape shrubs, remove dying or overgrown plants. Flower beds should have a crisp and clean look in winter months.
  • Add some affordable landscaping. Nurseries are having great sales this time of year and not only can your yard look better all winter, plants started now can be bigger and well established by spring. We love what a few colorful mums planted along the walkway does for curb appeal for months and months.
  • Freshen Your Front Door, a front door says a lot about your home. Paint your front door or stain it if the color is faded! Red is a dominant color and your eye will go right to it when you walk into a room or drive by a home.
  • Replace or paint old mailboxes.

It helps to write down a complete inventory of what is wrong with your home's appearance, then make a list of ways in which you can fix those problems. It could be as simple as adding a flower bed or planting a tree. A walkway lined with bright flowers is always helpful.

The most important thing to keep in mind when preparing your house is to be objective. Look at your house and yard as if you were a buyer, and determine curb appeal from that perspective. You may notice things you've spent years overlooking. Spend a little time and you will create a beautiful curb appeal for your home.

Holiday Home Decorating Tips from our home in Charlotte, NC to your home where ever it may be.

Holiday Home Decorating Tips from our home in Charlotte, NC to your home where ever it may be.

As a Home Stager and Home Redesigner in Charlotte, NC I understand that time of year is around the corner and everyone will be so busy getting things in order from making their list to entertain, menus, shopping, cooking and baking. But what about your homes? Are they ready for guest to arrive? Do you give the same attention to your décor? With the holidays approaching, this is a good time to step back with an objective eye to see what can be done to create a more welcoming and less humdrum environment - for guests, for your family and for yourself.

There's plenty of time to create new interior redesign rooms, Neither Home Staging nor home decorating involves moving walls, gutting a house or remodeling. Whereas Home Staging tends to depersonalize a home to make it easier for buyers to see themselves living there, Home Redesign can add personality so your space reflects your taste.

"Both approaches make the home more appealing," says Tonia Mosteller Home Stager and Home Redesigner from Charlotte, NC.

So, how can you give your home a new look by the holidays?

Here are 10 quick and inexpensive tips from the Decorating expert Tonia Mosteller at Redesign + More.

1.Get rid of clutter~ This is a must and opens up the space, makes a room feel bigger and gives a sense of calm "This step can actually save you money. You can donate items and get a tax deduction or sell them."

2. Keep only what you love~If an item doesn't have a purpose or you just don't like it, don't keep it around. "When you pare things down, each item is there because it's special."

At Redesign + More our favorite saying is: "Begin by seeing your room in the nude, I like to see the 'bones' of the room." From there, you can build a foundation of furniture and layer on accessories. Carefully edit the room with items that you love.

3. Move things around~This might involve moving objects and furniture from one room to another, or it could involve rearranging furniture in an existing room.

"When you rearrange things, you make the space look new and fresh," Trust me I have done this in my own home and many of my friends homes. "Sometimes you stop noticing things when they've been around too long in the same place." Moving furniture gives you the opportunity to do a thorough cleaning as well, and a clean room is easier to love.

4.Add a Punch of color to those beige walls~You can add color by painting an entire room, painting an accent wall or choosing a colorful piece of upholstered furniture.

Throws, pillows and even inexpensive drapery panels also are ways to add color. You might take your color cue from a favorite painting or area rug.

5. Improve the flow of your home~ One way is to unify space - such as an open-concept living room, dining room and kitchen - with flooring. If you're on a budget, as a Home Stager in Charlotte NC, I suggest using a laminate floating floor, carpet or tile.

No one wants to bump into furniture as they move from the living room to the dining room or kitchen buffet, so keep the traffic flow in mind if you're rearranging furniture.

6. Seek balance~ Don't put all of your oversize pieces of furniture on one side of the room, for example, or concentrate color in just one area. Don't use just small prints or just large prints in fabric, but strive for a mix.

Home Redesign or Home Staging is rearranging items such as on built-in bookshelves so dramatic accessories are interspersed among neutral items. Then no single accessory will grab all of the attention.

I suggest installing spotlights to illuminate the shelves or rope lighting along the top for instant ambiance. If you have time for a more dramatic bookcase makeover, remove everything and paint the shelves a high-gloss white. Then lacquer the back in a bold color.

7. Create groupings~ Small accessories tend to add to a sense of clutter when they're scattered about. "If you organize them into groupings, they can become a focal point for a room". Such groupings might be photographs on a wall that are similarly framed, small pieces of artwork that would look out of proportion alone on a wall, or a collection of bottles, vases or similarly shaped objects displayed on a shelf or tabletop.

For a coffee table, consider using a nice decorative bowl filled with fruit or a vase filled with white flowers. Pull from your shelves two or three inspiring coffee-table books of similar size and color and stack them. Be creative, but "DON'T" clutter this area.

As Home Stagers and Home Redesigners from Charlotte, NC we simply say:
"Remove any other clutter, and you have a fresh new look."

Don't forget the mantel. It's a wonderful place to display special items in a grouping. Furniture can be grouped as well. If you have a fireplace add a grouping with chairs, nothing is more inviting then pulling together a couple of chairs to create a conversational area.

8. Update your look~ Need a change in the Kitchen but don't have a budget...Changing faucets or light fixtures, using metals that are less dated. Cabinets that are outdated or showing wear can be re-stained. Experts at your paint store or home center can offer suggestions on how to do this, but it works best if you're going from lighter to darker. Cabinets also can be painted, and consider changing hardware on you cabinets, and of course paint can make all the difference. A fresh new color or just a new coat certainly can give a fresh new look.

9. Lighten up~ "Add variety to a room with interesting lighting fixtures, such as a vintage lamp or a romantic chandelier". "Create a seasonal centerpiece by using a vast cluster of candles or a grand candelabra." I suggest a glamorous chandelier in the master bathroom or in the powder room. OK, I am a hopeless romantic...so you know. Of course make sure your lighting fits the scale of the room.

10. Don't forget curb appeal~ Be sure to highlight the entrance where your guests will be arriving. Rather we are staging, doing a home redesign or a complete home makeover with Interior Design in Charlotte, NC, CURB APPEAL is a must for every home. This is the first thing your guest will see when approaching your home, your interior may be welcoming and warm but don't forget about the front entrance as it starts at the curb.

You can do this with updated light fixtures, a wreath, seasonal pots or a metal sculpture or wall hanging. Make sure your landscaping is looking fresh and your mulch doesn't need to be replaced and be sure the entrance is clean, swept free of debris and that the welcome mat.

This should help get your home decorated for the holidays off to a good start, we have some time before our holidays begin.... Happy Decorating and Happy Holidays, from our home in Charlotte, NC to your home where ever you may be.
