Staging with BOO-tiful Pumpkins, Charlotte North Carolina

We all know it's that time of year where we search for the perfect pumpkins to either place by our front doors or use them inside our home. We decorate with pumpkins in many ways. We spend time with our families going on hay-rides, pumpkin picking and sipping hot cedar. I have looked on-line for some great inspirations on decorating our pumpkins this year and found many websites below. Hope the photos and the information will get you excited about decorating your pumpkins too. I have used a few of these creative ideas through out the years and always looking for something new. One of my favorites I use every year are the Wee-B-Little pumpkins you see in the window box and I love to carve words in our pumpkins too. Although I must say my husband is amazing at carving designs in our pumpkins and as a family this is something we look forward too every year.

Wee-B-Little pumpkins

Try grouping your pumpkins in a window box, terra-cotta pot, or other container. Add some flowers and foliage to the mix, and you’ll have a ball.

Pumpkin Cooler

For a hit at your next party, trade fire for ice as your pumpkin filling of choice. Cut the top from a large, wide pumpkin with a serrated knife, and scoop out the seeds and pulp. Line the bottom and sides of the pumpkin with a 2-gallon zip-top plastic bag. Fill the bag with ice and assorted beverages.

Hearth-Warming

Instead of the usual haunts, try grouping pumpkins in a less-expected locale, like an unused fireplace. This to-die-for arrangement mixes plain and painted varieties for maximum eye appeal. For the graphic gourds, use painter's tape and self-adhesive paper to mark off stripes and circles. Spray with glossy black and white paint, then casually heap in the hearth.

Pumpkin Topiary

For years, the grinning jack-o'-lantern has graced front porches across the South, heralding fall and Halloween. This year, put a twist on this tradition with stylish topiary and create a pumpkin topiary on your porch.

Hold Your Fire

Transform munchkin pumpkins into organic votive holders to illuminate an autumnal table. Snap off each pumpkin's stem, and position a candle in its depression. Cover with a clear glass hurricane shade. Insert floral U pins to hold the shade in place.

Pumpkin Chandeliers

Pumpkins made into temporary light fixtures can spread a charming glow over your autumn celebration or create an eerie but sophisticated welcome for Halloween callers.

Flying Place Cards

Set the stage, and the table, for Halloween with these strange creatures -- half bat, half pumpkin.

Translucent Pumpkins

Halloween custom calls for a fiercely lit, glowering jack-o'-lantern, but you might also consider the more subtle glow of an elegant monogram, playful spirals, or a whimsical harlequin pattern.

Harvested Scenes

A rickety picket fence unites a row of pumpkins in a depiction of a farmer's field. Create a beautiful table-scape using pumpkins.

Welcome Home

Lend a spooky feeling to your front porch with a stacked-pumpkin address marker. Pick the correct number of pumpkins with flat shapes for your address and make sure they sit well on top of each other. Then use stencils and paint to add a number to the front of each pumpkin.

Boo-tiful Pumpkins

When illuminated, the apple corer holes emit an eerie glow. This big "Boo!" looks like it took hours, but with the help of a plunger-type apple corer, large letters are easy to knock out. Be sure you get the scary point across by using a serrated knife and a metal biscuit cutter to create a simple exclamation mark.

Table Treats

Tuck candles and small pumpkins inside glass cylinders or canning jars. Chocolate- and caramel-covered apples make toothsome favors.

Pumpkin Greeting

Spell out your greeting in mini pumpkins gathered at a prominent — and stationary — location. First, pencil letters on hollowed pumpkins (carve out the opening from the bottom). Then, using a drill with a half-inch bit, bore holes to form each letter. Here, strings of Christmas-tree lights, gathered in small bunches, illuminate each pumpkin (unscrew bulbs where the string descends to the next row).

These photos and information is from Martha Stewart, Better Homes and Garden, Country Living, Southern Living and Good Housekeeping. Enjoy and have fun decorating with pumpkins.
