Tahoe Donner is one of the best places in the Tahoe/Truckee area for beginning skiers. They have a Snow Flakes program for 3-6 year olds and other programs for everyone else.
The terrain is pretty gentle. Trail Map
The prices are pretty gentle on the pocket book too! And they run a variety of discount programs over the season that make it even more attractive.

Very gentle terrain for new skiers and boarders.

There are approximately 140 condos around the hill. There are 1,2 and 3 bedroom upstairs units and 1 and 2 bedroom downstairs units. We have 5 listed right now, ranging from $203-299,000. Since January 1, 2008, there have been 6 sales ranging from $165-325K.

The website states 7-12" of fresh snow in the last 24 hours with a base of 60-85". They have 120 acres open. And calling conditions: fresh powder.

Since the middle of 2008, we have been seeing heightened activity in the Napa market. Year to year, the median and average prices have gone down, but the number of units has gone up.

In October of 2007, we had 80 closed transactions. In October of 2008, 126.
In November of 2007, we had 76 closed transactions. In November of 2008, 90.
In December of 2007, we had 76 closed transactions. In December of 2008, 121.
In January of 2008, we had 50 closed transactions. In January of 2009, 68.
It seems the reduced median/average prices are encouraging buyers to commit. I've heard from a number of agents around the country that they've also seen an uptick in sales in their markets, despite what the media is telling everyone. Let's keep up our part of educating the prospective buyers that real estate is local!
On this Valentine's Day, I was curious where the most romantic destination that you and your Valentine spent a just-for-two getaway??? Warm tropical locale? Exotic international venue? Cozy country hideaway? Far-flung or nearby? As with most vacation locations, I know it depends on the person/s. I'd love to come up with a few new ideas for future consideration.
My favorite? Right here in Tahoe/Truckee. Quietwater Creek-- Open the 8' sliding glass door and the linen drapes billow in the breeze (of course, this is more of a summertime thing). The playful sound of the creek will enchant you during the day and lull you to sleep at night. There are acres and acres of greenbelt just beyond the property that make for wonderful hiking. The master suite is sumptuous, with venetian plaster, a 4-poster bed that is draped, 2 person jetted tub in the bath and a sitting room/library.
The great room is beautifully furnished with huge windows looking out to the creek and pines and aspen. There is a large stone fireplace which is perfect for romantic evenings with a glass of wine and a selection of dark chocolate! After all, what's a romantic getaway without chocolate??? The kitchen has stone floors that feel amazing under bare feet, granite counters and a large butcher block island. Plenty of room to create romantic dinners together. And for breakfast, you can share the deck over the creek with a mermaid! Truly a place for couples to experience the magic of the mountains.
I'm eager to hear about your favorites romantic getaways!
Quietwater Creek Master Suite with draped four poster, venetian plaster and access to Alder Creek right out the sliding glass doors.

Enjoy breakfast on the deck. Huge forest views and the sound of the creek. Even a mermaid for company.

Large stone fireplace, perfect with a glass of wine and some dark chocolate!
