The black bear and Elk Lottery tags are on sale now for the 2008 Season. They will be avaiable until June 1, 2008. Because both are weighted lotteries if you are not planning a hunt for this year you should still apply for your preference points. Good Luck! Both Elk and Black Bear populations are up this year and the DNR is expanding hunting regions for both species.

The Grand Traverse Resort will be running the day to day golf operations for LochenHeath this summer. LochenHeath is going through some changes and has put the Grand Traverse Resort in charge of running there world class golf course. The first 2 weeks of the 2008 spring Turkey hunt (Unit K) has been spectacular. There are lots of birds on the move searching for receptive hens and food. Because of the lack of rain the birds really have to work to find food. There is not much green in the woods as of yet so spotting birds off in the distance is a little easier than most years. Birds in the area are gobbling hard and are responding to calls. The hunting pressure is very low throughout the Pere Marquette State Forest area. Look for birds working recent clear cuts along the Boardman and its tributaries. We have had some big winds and rain during the mornings of the second week making hearing difficult, but the late morning and early afternoon have been sunny. The birds really seem to be on the move and gobbling between 10 and 2. Good Luck.
