I've been MeMe'd...

Well I have officially been Meme'd and I am so excited... my hat is off to Margaret Woda for introducing to this fun little group!

So without further adiu... Here are the seven things you don't know about me, and probably don't care about, either!

1. In high school I was voted "Most likely to become a Female Mudwrestler"! If only I could have made that work out:)!

2. I am madly in love with my great dane ~Bella~, she is the most wonderful dog I have ever known!

3. When I was 14 I left home and hitch hiked across the country 3 times for a total of a yesr and a half! At the time I thought I was grown and could take care of myself...now I look back and realize I was a BABY!! UGH!!

4. I am having a blow out 40th birthday party this summer...live music, BBQ and Beer...Yay!

Hopefully I fare better than this gal did...

5. I lost my only son Malachi when he was 15 (2006) in a boating accident on lake Havasu...He was an incredibly sweet, kind and thought spirit and I miss him with every breath I take the little yummy cutie pie!

6. My stepson Aaron had a double lung transplant due to Cystic Fibrosis...The University of Washington Medical Center and all of it staff are amazing and wonderful people who work miricales everyday while we go about our business. Aaron and my dear friend Sarah Morris (who is a Realtor and also suffers from CF) created Breathe 4 Tomorrow and foundation to assist families dealing with the day to day struggles

7. I am an adrenaline junkie...so I secretly wish that I was independently wealthy so I could bankroll non-stop adventures!

So there ya have it a glimpse into me...Hmmmmmm...now whose next:)

Day 2 of the Lewis/Thurston County Floods...Waters rise as levees breech!

Here is a continuation of of my 2009 Flood Blog...this is Day 2!

My friends Lisa, Julia and I headed in to Tumwater Falls to see how the Deschutes River was holding up here's what we saw...

The Pic on to the Right above is a Park sign...I couldn't believe my eyes...

We decided to head home and get some dry clothes on...I took a few more pics of the Brewery Warehouses on the way...

Once we were changed we headed back down to see if we could assist anyone in Centralia...unsure if we could find access we gave it a whirl...we made a detour into the little town of Bucoda...

This was the entrance into Bucoda, not a good sign...there are many elderly and fixed income folks in this rural town...so we will come back to assist them with clean up...

Notice in the above far right pic...the tip of a fire hydrant peeking through the water...this gives you an idea of how deep the water was...and that wasn't even the deepest point!

We helped some very sweet gals get to their home so they could check on it...So far only the garage was flooded, Thank goodness all was still dry inside the house....when will the river crest they wonder???

The sun was going down so we got back in the rig to try to make our way down to Centralia...but we didn't make it far...the road was had turnes to a lake as far as the eye could see (lucky for my husband Joe I-5 was shut down and this is the back road to his work...dang it...he was gonna have to take another day off!

So we had to turn around and head back to the safety and warmth of home...my heart broke at the thought of all the people affected by this flooding...these were only pics of our small area...imagine how many little towns all across Western Washington mirror what you have seen here and even worse...the families, the animals...down to the little field mice, swimming to the safety of a branch or twig...

and to end this on a lighter note...anyone looking to buy some Real Estate? I would be happy to represent you...

Day 1 of the Lewis/Thurston County Floods...the pics say it all!

On January 7th 2009 we got word that with the record snow fall combine with a visiting"Pineapple Express" we were likely to see some flooding throughout Western Washington...and boy they weren't kidding!!

I headed out that Wednesday morning to snap some photos of the preperation down in lewis County as they had been hit hard in December 2007 with the Interstate ending up under 10ft of water and I was curious to watch the progression and document it...i didn't want to miss a thing this time!

I won't bore you with a bunch of words as I have found that the pictures say it all...So let's begin!

Tenino City Park

This was across the street from my house in the Tenino City Park...we have no river or stream so imagine my suprise when I stepped out my front door!

We actually had some rapids...i jumped in my car and headed down to Centralia about 10 min. south going the back roads..

Everyone was getting ready for the waters to rise...and I mean everyone...

It was already flooding in many streets...the leveei would not breech until 8am the next day...UGH!!

Cars were parked, owners nowhere to be found, people started to to venture out...curiousity is human nature I think...

I decide to head home and make dinner...I took a couple more pics on the way home...

When I arrived home the Tenino City Park was under more water...

I made dinner & then called my friends Lisa & Julia to see if they would like to return to Centralia with me to help sandbag as the homeowners were left to sandbag self serve style! So we had a cocktail and headed out...Me in the orange, Lisa in red & Julia in Gray...boy were we soaked & sore the next mornin'!

We met wonderful, sweet people and everyone banded together to help each other out...it was an amazing experience I will never forget! The next morning we headed out to check out the Deschutes Falls in Tumwater...so stay tuned for my next blog of Day 2!

Great Film on Thurston County History Loved it!! Go With The Flow!!

So during our crazy snow storm I walked my little behind down to the local library and unexpectedly found a treasure!

What you ask?... I found a great documentary film on the Thurston County area and felt compelled to share it! The name of the movie is "Go With The Flow" and it gave a great history of our area...from the Native Americans who first called this beautiful land their home...the joining of Washington into the Union and the selection of Olympia as our State Capitol. This film gives you a glimpse into the minds and the lives of the people who made Thurston County what it is today including the Schmidt family and their brewery, the plethera of musicians drawn to the area for it's relaxed feel(it even had a clip of an old friend playing in his band Fitz of Depression) and we can't forget all the wonderfully openminded folks that come from all walks of earth to attend and teach at one of the most progressive colleges around...The Evergreen State College.

"Go With The Flow" is full of vintage pictures of streets and buildings that you will recognize if you have lived here for any amount of time. My husband and I knew several of the folks who spoke in the film and it was just great fun and full of nostalgia...a great watch!!

As I said at the beginning of my blog...you can check this out at the local library or you can purchase "Go With The Flow" by clicking on the title.

It truly is a must see if you are from or now live in the Thurston County Area!
