Gathering for more than just a cause on Hilton Head Island !

Being British I was delighted when , a few years ago I was invited to join the International Women’s Group here on Hilton Head Island. As much as I loved living here and being a Realtor, something was missing - - that European flavor ? or was it the British humor ?

Actually, I found it was a little bit of both. ( No offense to my adopted country - - just a bit of my culture that I was missing ! ). Belonging to this group has made my life that much enjoyable mixing with these wonderful ladies who, come from all over the world.

The main requirement to enable you to join is that you have to be born outside the U.S. Members are from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Brazil, Argentina, Hungary, Holland, England of course - - to name but a few !

We meet each month and have lunch and a guest speaker. Our yearly inexpensive dues pay for many sundry items and every July, we meet on the beach and give a donation to a charity of our choice. In 2009 it was for a local charity for abused mothers and last year it was for “ Friends of the May River “. We believe very much in protecting the Low Country and seeing that it doesn’t get contaminated by run-off etc.

Yesterday, our own Mieke Smit from Holland, gave a superb presentation on her recent visit to Russia. It might seem easy to us who watch that it’s no big deal to put this together but I know Mieke has spent hours researching and getting books to hand around and to give us a history lesson as well as show us the wonderful Byzentine architecture of the different villages along the way and to share the personal experience she and her husband Hendrik, enjoyed.

Our meeting yesterday was at the wonderful retirement community of Tidepointe. Everytime I visit this incredible facility I want to live there myself. It has so much to offer for those retired or need medical assistance. The decor is so inviting, food superb and the lovely staff are truly wonderful.

Of course I don’t sell property in Tidepointe but if anyone wants more information on this amazing facility I can certainly send a brochure. It is a Recipient of the Award of Excellence from the Association of Retirement Resorts International.

Before her presentation, Mieke was kind enough to participate in a video for me and I include it below. Don’t forget to Call me for more information on ( 843 ) 384 8439 whether it be for Tidepointe, - - a relocation package or your property requirements i.e., primary home, or second home / investment property.

PORT ROYAL PLANTATION - HILTON HEAD ISLAND !

Even frequent visitors - - well informed about the island in general - - will answer " no " when asked if they are familiar with Port Royal Plantation. Some may recognize it's award winning entranceway on Hway 278. And, perhaps that is good for those who reside in this tranquil, completely residential oceanfront community that is dedicated to the serenity of its landowners and devoid of idle traffic.

Security sends transgressors on their way and a 25 mile speed limit throughout the entire property is strictly enforced.

Larger homesites make for lower density. Among the amenities are the Barony and Robber Row golf courses, tenniscourts, Arborterum and the delightful Residents Beach Club and pool that sits right on the " heel " of the island affording access to arguably the best stretch of sandy beaches on the island - - now about to be " renourished ".

The Beach House provides a meeting place for a wide variety of residents social events as well as for regular meetings with the administration and Friday morning ladies coffee club - if not held at one of the member's private homes.

Likely to be continued in 2011 is a periodic Sunday " Open House " for potential buyers who can, leisurely, survey the many attributes of the community and evaluate the unique landscaping and sense of privacy. A fortunate few may quickly decide that it is for them.

Contiguous to the gated area is the prestigious grande dame Westin Hotel, Planters Row Golf course and Club House and the Port Royal Racquet Club.

Currently ( 34 ) homes ( 3% ) are listed for sale ranging in price from $349,000 to $2,850,000. The median price is $825,000 and the average price is $963,570. At this writing there are ( 5 ) homes " under contract " ranging, in listing price, from #399,000 to $2,695,000.

SINGING FOR A GOOD CAUSE ON HILTON HEAD ISLAND !

For those of you who are following me -- which sadly at this moment doesn't appear to be many. ( I will improve - PROMISE ! ) you know that I am a semi-retired professional singer. In fact I met my husband Jay on Cunard 's" Sagajford " way back in 1992 and, as they say, the rest is history.

It was a bit of a culture shock coming from England to the U.S. but I attained my citizenship in 2004 ( and that's another story ! ). In any event, I am delighted to be at his side on Hilton Head Island selling real estate.

Last Friday afternoon I performed at TIDEPOINTE ( now a VI community ) - a beautiful retirement community here on the island. I have over the past couple of years been apart of our International ladies Group -- such a lovely group of gals -- and met Mieke Smit who loves to play piano. Our group's founder, Susan Oschenor suggested we perform together and so we did. This last performance will be our 4th ! We do it not just for ourselves but to make people smile who otherwise can't get out to see shows and also try to encourage people to give a donation whether it be for a scholarship for a young musician -- in this case, Dasha -- a young musician who Mieke, through her fund raisers has brought over to study in Boston or -- for other good charities.

Over the years I have sung around the world -- and I feel very fortunate to have done that but now it is my turn to give back to my community and it warms my heart to hopefully help bring joy back into people's hearts through music.

Maybe there are others of you out there that are musicians/Thespians who do the same thing. I know I can't be alone in this. Our team leader, Matt Walley -- an exceptional young man -is a semi retired opera singer who also sings for benefits on the island. His passion, like mine, is for Relay for Life.

As you all know, it's not just real estate we sell, it's lifestyle and helping people find their dream homes or move on with their lives to be with their children. Listing and selling can be hard work but the end result to see clients satisfied at the end of the day is the best reward possible. The same applied last Friday as Mieke and I sang for our supper !

Hope to hear from others soon.

CANCER SURVIVOR PARK - HILTON HEAD ISLAND !

My dear friend and client ( Client first and since has become a dear friend ) Sandy Stern has been instrumental in getting this park approved. Not an easy task but one doesn't listen to Sandy without taking her seriously. She is passionate about this park, not only because her husband Eddie is a survivor but because she cares about people.

I think the "Big C" as my mother used to call it has affected most of us. My mother was not as lucky as most and died at 53 in 1967. I was only 20 -- it was tough to lose her so young but I know she would have been inspired by Sandy and Pattie Burke's dedication. I know also, with the advancement of medicine today, she would have survived.

Here's what The Island Packet published to day regarding Sandy and Pattie Burke's commitment.
