Wildfire Areas

The recent wildfires out west have given insurance companies reason to tighten guidelines for homeowner's insurance policies in "wildfire areas." My Uncle Dave's Cabin in Alpine, AZ. is a perfect example. I spent 4 days cutting tree limbs to meet the 8 ft high clearance rule. I also busted my tail picking up pine cones, weed wacking, and raking up pine needles for the 200 ft radius rule. I made 8 trips to the "pine needle dump" and now I'm crossing my fingers hoping the inspector doesn't have any issues.....

Well, at least he gets credit for having a metal roof!

Buycott Arizona

I don't usually discuss politics in public, however, since I'm a business owner in Tucson, Arizona I feel the need to voice my opinion. Many politicians and others, have called for the boycott of Arizona because of SB1070. I have joined a website: www.buycottarizona.com. If you support Arizona, and I know many Americans do, please visit this website that supports small businesses in Arizona.

SB1070 is a very sensitive issue here - as you can see by this car...."SOY MEXICANA - PULL ME OVER"...he probably did get pulled over, he had no brake lights!

My Dad the Metalman

My Dad is a retired high school welding teacher always looking for a piece of scrap metal he can turn into something creative. This is his latest invention from an old flathead shovel. Pretty cool huh? No, I didn't inherit any of his artistic ability. I'm just a boring Insurance Agent.

Homeowner or Landlord Policy?

Homeowner Policy or Landlord Policy?....what's the big deal right? Well, it's no big deal until you file a claim, and then you might find out that you don't have the right coverage. Both policies cover the "dwelling" but a Landlord policy will have limited "contents" coverage that will usually only come with enough coverage to cover appliances left by the owner. In most cases that is enough, but if the owner is furnishing the house, then contents coverage will need to be increased. A Landlord policy will also come with "loss of income rents" - so, if the house burns down and it takes 5 months to be rebuilt, the owner will be paid the same amount of rent money not coming in for 5 months. Be sure you have the right policy by contacting your Insurance Agent. If you rent out your property, make sure your policy includes loss of income rents because not all insurance companies include this coverage.

Pet Overpopulation

Love is in the air! I volunteer for the Humane Society of Southern Arizona and we are getting in lots of little kittens and puppies. My specialty is foster care for bottle babies....right now I have 10 baby kittens. Not getting too much sleep. You should join in the fun and volunteer for a local shelter in your town. All you need is time, a home and lots of love to give. Oh, and tell your friends and family to spay and neuter their pets...it's estimated 5 to 6 thousand cats and dogs are euthanized every year due to pet overpopulation.
