A fast moving wild fire is forcing the evacuation of thousands in the Santa Cruz mountains. Due to a combination of high winds and drought conditions, this fire is becoming of great concern. I recently wrote a blog Is your property wildfire ready. Something you should think about especially in the west. One of the points made was the need for defensible space. In large and fast moving fires like this one, there is little fire crews can do. A defensible space gives your home a fighting chance. Just listen to the reporters reports about having to write off homes. http://cbs13.com/breakingnews/santa.cruz.fire.2.1126596.html

Ensuring you have an escape route could mean the difference, when it counts the most. These fires are of great concern especially in these regions of the state. While large fires are not uncommon in California, these areas have not burned in years. A combination of increased population has also added to the overall impact and need for special attention to these emergencies. Due to the location of the fire it self, fighting it could pose a major challenge.
Do not wait take actions now if you feel that you may be living in an area with high fire danger.
Also here is a good example of communicating information to large masses using social networking. Twitter is all great for being able to communicated with thousands in seconds. Fire departments like LAFD are using this form of informing. Wild fires are a serious threat to life and property for the State of California. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32400723/ns/weather/

Finding inexpensive and tasty in the same sentence is sometimes hard. Utopia grill in Roseville seems to have done that very same thing. Yesterday my family and I went there for dinner mainly because of the $10 off coupon. The catch was after 2pm and we had to spend a minimum of $25.
We ordered a large margarita pizza a burger and a bucket of 4 imported beers after my coupon was turned in my grand total was $17 that is it. The great thing about this place is that it offers all organic and fresh food. The service was great and the restaurant was very clean. The atmosphere was extremely pleasant and allowed for a very enjoyable dinner.
Utopia grill is located at 1465 Eureka Rd (916) 788-1122
From a value stand point I give it 5 out of 5 stars and 4 out of 5 for taste and service TRY IT OUT!

Many people wake up and drink a cup of coffee every morning, most of which will never understand the true circle of money. If only we could have a magical key that would fix our growing economic problem. The trickle down effect of a bad economy started hitting home for a larger number of people this year.
But do we really know how bad it is? And do we really know how to fix it. These are just two questions of the many being asked at just about every social gathering place.
My wife and I recently visited a friend of the family. It was cold that day and since she owns a coffee shop it worked out perfect. We said our hellos and how are you. One of the conversations we had was about how hard it is going to be too come up with a solution to our current financial situation. Her business plummeted the days following the large drop in the DOW. Many financial planners said no more coffee! They took it serious she said and with good reason. But what many do not realize is the ripple effect it would have.
She went on to tell my how she is making it so far but she had to cut the hours of all her teenage workers. And that is a big problem- those teenagers are the ones that drop millions into local economies by shopping at local retail centers. And do not forget the thousands of people that will lose their jobs. From drivers of goods to the night cleaning crew that cup of coffee represents more than you think.
It is too late to stop what we have set in motion. This has nothing to do with good or bad financial planning or about a gloom and doom attitude this is about shopping local.

911 what is your emergency? There is someone trying to break in to my home! Ok please take a number and wait to be called. That is the new proposed approach by the city of Sacramento police department. Due to the increasing budget crisis the city faces, the police department has to slash an additional $3.6M. The plan calls for cutting back on the number of police officers that patrol the streets, and will have to prioritize the emergency calls that come in.
For example if 3 calls come in at the same time and only 2 patrol cars are available the dispatcher will have to decide who is more important and the rest will have to wait. City leaders insist that public safety is a priority to them.
Recent budget cuts have also affected the fire department resulting in rotating brown out’s (closing a fire engine for 48 hrs). Recent fires happened down the street from stations that the engine was closed for the day, one of these fires ended up burning 2 homes.
I do not envy the decisions that city leaders have to make but I do encourage you to contact them and voice your concerns and share any ideas you may have to help resolve some issues.
