Tonight's Informational Meeting continues the-environmental process for the Proposed Granite Mountain...

I attended the Windmill Meeting. Held at the Apple Valley High School Called Granite Hills High School. There was between 200 and 300 people in the gym.

What is the proposal? 28 wind turbines that would produce enough electricity for 70,000 to 90,000 population.

Why Granite Hills? Cost. The cost of the study, the cost of the roads to the Turbines, the cost of locating the turbines themselves in a wind rich environment. The proximity of an electric line that could carry the load.

What is the motivation? Other than money making, there are Senate bill 1078 and senate bill 107 are requiring retailers of electricity to obtain 20% of their supply from sources that are renewable. And the Assembly Bill 32 which is the Global warming solutions act requires California to reduce carbon dioxide/greenhouse gases by 25 percent. We simply need more electricity for our growing population.

But the biggest questions of the night revolved around the issue of impact visual, wildlife, noise, and economical. Much care was used to present these issues and the invitation to voice concern was asked for.

So in a nutshell, last night I saw two groups of people arguing for and environmentally better place. The ones who lived there for no change to protect the environment and the one for change to protect the environment.

After the presentation, comments written and verbal were welcomed from the crowd present there.

Local residents such as Beau-ford Strange, Bill, and other gave written comments only.

Some asked to speak such as Jim Beam who represented Quail Unlimited. When mr Beam Spoke Charles Chan assisted with the microphone.

When I left the meeting the protocol for question/comment and answer was beginning to fall apart. The leadership upfront needed to stay on-track with the management of the meeting. The audience needed to voice its concerns in a manner that represented the citizens of Apple Valley as informed and cogent concern.
