EARTH DAY CONTINUES.........
On the heels of Earth Day yesterday, April 22, and everyone mentioning ways to preserve the Earth, the town of Cromwell, CT is also doing their part.
If you have games and toys that your family has outgrown, or sports equipment that you no longer use? You can now share them with others in Cromwell.
The Recreation Department is sponsoring a "New to you Day", on Saturday May 2, 1009 from 9:00am to 12:00pm in the town hall gym.
Next Friday, May 1st between 4:00 and 7:00pm, they will be collecting your old items. The sports equipment must be clean and not broken and all games must have all the pieces.
---and then on Saturday morning Cromwell residents only can come and see if there is something they are looking for that is new to them. There will be a limit of the number of items you will be allowed to take initially.. from 9:00an ti 11:00am, giving everyone a chance to get something. After 11:30am all items must go.
There is no charge for this program but photo ID will be required to enter the gym on Saturday.

This day and age, everyone is in a rush and not many people stop to smell the roses or *truly* be there for someone else. Everyone is trying to make a buck make ends meet, and continue with the daily grind.
The members here on the Rain do not fall into this category though. Yesterday proved this... and it took my breath away.
As you may recall last Friday I had to put my beloved buddy, Rusty to sleep. He was with me for over 15 years, and it was *his* time. I didn't want him to go, but I couldn't be selfish either.
I wrote a blog about this "A Sad Farewell to a Dear Friend" and I want to take a moment to thank everyone that responded with heart felt comments. Thank you.
There is one ActiveRain member that I knew who would be touched by this story, but I didn't know she would touch me with her caring and sensitivity. Yesterday afternoon I received a floral delivery from Teresa Harris in Denver North Carolina. It was sent to me in memory of Rusty. She didn't have to do this, but went out of her way to let me know how she felt. Thank you Teresa.

NIKE PRESENTS THE
REUSE-A-SHOE FOUNDATION
The town of Cromwell, CT is hosting a "recycle your sneakers" event. At the Woodside Intermediate School on Woodside Road and in the gym at the townhall, there are bins to drop off old sneakers that your children have out grown, or ones that you just don't want anymore. These bins will be available through May 1st.. so don't delay.
Nike will reuse your old sneakers to make sport surfaces, playgrounds, and even new Nike products. What better way to recycle? It is going to a good cause and not polluting the earth with more waste.

A PROJECT GRADUATION FUNDRAISER
CHILI'S RESTAURANT, CROMWELL
TUESDAY APRIL 7TH
5:00PM TO 8:00PM
Members of the Cromwell High School graduating class of 2009 will be working with Chili's staff to assist in the evening's work.... and collect tips. When tipping the seniors you will be helping the fundraising efforts by assisting the "Class of 2009" enjoy fun, entertaining and a safe graduating evening in June.
Also to help raise money, there will be a 50/50 drawing, and baked goodies! Who can't go for baked goodies... this is good comfort food.
TIPPING IS GOOD KARMA.. WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND.
SO COME ON DOWN THIS TUESDAY, APRIL 7TH FROM 5P TO 8PM,
AND JOIN THE SENIORS OF CROMWELL HIGH SCHOOL.
Parents of seniors, you should definitely come on down, make your son or daughter work, and earn that tip. Let them wait on your for a change.

DAIRY QUEEN FUN NIGHT
Cromwell Middle School Fundraiser
Monday, April 6th
5:00pm to 8:00pm
There never seems to be a dull moment here in Cromwell CT when looking for something to do. Monday, April 6th will be no exception.
The Cromwell Middle School PTO provides much needed school supplies and computer technology, student scholarships, and sponsors school activities to the students of town. They are looking to keep this standard up, but need our help.
So, on the first Monday evening of every month... the Dairy Queen in the Expect Discount/KMart Plaza, will donate 10% of their net sales for the evening to the Cromwell Middle School PTO.
So, moms, dads and families, come on over and have dinner and dessert. At the same time you will be helping the CMS PTO and the students.
This event was held for the first time last month, but wouldn't you know that weekend we had the snow storm, and there wasn't much of a turn out. So, as far as I'm concerned, this coming Monday will be it's debut.
SEE YOU THERE!
Note: Sales were down on Monday. We were hit with snow the night before and not many people came out.. I'm hoping next month it will be the reverse...
