As the fourth largest metropolitan area in Broward County and 11th largest in the state, the city of Coral Springs has an area of 23.5 square miles, and contains around 21,000 or more single-family residences that have a median income capita per family over $50,000.
This high-income base among families here has been helpful in boosting the city’s tax base to over $4.7 billion. This area was incorporated as a city in 1963, and initially had three residents who were basically workers of the Coral Ridge Properties. By 1980, the city completely detached itself from CRP and became a full-pledged community, with a self-reliant and efficient government system, and within that time its s population already reached an estimated 34,000 residents.
Today, the city has around well over 124,000, mostly white, educated and family-oriented people. However, the city’s program of ethnic diversity has been a priority in further attracting young and affluent African-American, Hispanic, Asian and other foreign-born families as well.
Ranked as One Of The Best Cities In The US
The city was recently voted the 27th best city in the United States in which to live by Money Magazine in 2006; was named the 10th safest city in the US by Morgan Quitno in 2007, and was noted as one of the 100 best communities for children by America's Promise. In 2007, the city became the first state or local government in the country to be awarded the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. The urban enclave’s public school system has always been regarded as one of the best in Broward County with a higher that national average in high school and college graduation rates.
What started out as a sleepy "bedroom town" in the northwestern end of Broward County for families who wished to live far from hassles of big-city living, is now filled with lots of new housing developments, which range from single to multi-family homes, condos and sprawling estates. With the completion of the Sawgrass Expressway in the 1990s, the area grew not only in terms of population, but also in terms of private investments as well.
The City Has Good Business and Economic Fundamentals That Bode Well For Residents
The city’s Chamber of Commerce recently created the Coral Springs Economic Development Foundation in 1993 to attend to the demand from businesses and corporations who wish to relocate or set up additional offices in this area. Paving the way for this was the surge in real estate developments, with the construction of newer upscale residential communities such as Heron Bay, corporate relocation within the city’s Corporate Park housing companies such as First Data and attracting big name hotel chains such as Marriot.
Another major accomplishment of the city is the awarding of a superior rating of "AAA" from Fitch-ICBA and an "Aaa" rating from Moody's Investor Services, which helped to affirm the urban centers Total Quality Management master plan as a truly viable model to emulate.
