If you don't seem to get anywhere with your bank, keep trying, be persistent. If this doesn't work, contact an experienced Realtor regarding the possibility of doing a short sale. There is no cost to you to hire a Realtor to do a short sale and there are no closing costs for the homeowner with a short sale - the bank pays the commissions and closing fees. Foreclosures should be avoided at all costs. There is no upside to foreclosure.

Here is the latest look at Riverside California residential real estate. These tables show real estate sales for single family homes in Riverside CA in June 2009. There are a lot of home buyers right now but the number of houses for sale continues to decrease each month. Compare the large drop from the first quarter of 2009 to June. Suprisingly, in spite of the demand, the prices of houses overall continues to decline compared to the first quarter of 2009.
The number of active listings and pending listings is as July 4, 2009. The average list price of sold homes means the average price of the homes at the time they went into escrow (but not necessarily what they actually sold for). You can compare that to the the average price that homes actually sold for.
