Moving to Your New Home in Lubbock Texas Checklist

Whether you're moving across town or across the country, moving is a big job. Planning and organization can make your move easier. Here are a few tips to help get your life and your possessions ready for an exciting new chapter in your life.

Getting Ready for the Move

  • Make lists of things to do and things you'll need.
  • If you're using a moving company, call early to get quotes and secure a moving date.
  • Stop by your local Post Office or go online to www.USPS.com to fill out a change of address. Do this a few weeks prior to your move date.
  • If moving out of the area, make sure you have all of your medical and prescription information handy.
  • Contact credit card companies, your bank, newspaper/magazines subscriptions and Insurance Providers.
  • Keep a list of service and utility companies easily accessible to make shutting off or transferring simpler.

Packing Tips

  • If you're packing yourself, have plenty off supplies - boxes, tape, markers, packing paper to wrap breakables, etc. Have more than you think you'll need.
  • Designate a color for each room and put a colored sticker on each box and on the door to each room so the movers know where each box belongs
  • Pack as much as possible in advance such as off-season clothes, seldom used kitchen supplies, extra towels and sheets.
  • Use luggage and duffle bags to pack
  • Have extra laundry baskets available. They're easy to pack, you can see what's in them and they're reusable.
  • Assign everyone in your family a "personal" storage tote for the items they will need right away in the new home
  • Pack your important papers together and carry them with you in the car or on the plane.
  • Moving is the perfect time to sort through your belongings and decide which items you don't need or want anymore. Have a garage sale, donate to a charity or give as gifts to your friends.

Moving probably isn't the most fun you've ever had, but if you plan ahead it will go a lot smoother. And visualizing your new home in Vintage Township will certainly keep you motivated to get the job done!

Porch Living is the right kind of living for Vintage Township

In many of Vintage Township's home styles and pre-constructed homes, a porch is a special feature that brings a lot of added value to a home. In this new traditional community in Lubbock, Texas, porches are intended to encourage interaction among families and fellow residents. Most of the community members take full advantage of their porches and love to be outside in the fresh air, and in the company of others.

Most of the things you can do in your home, you can also do outside on your porch. Being experts on porch living, some of Vintage Township's residents have listed their favorite porch activities:

Dinners by Sunset - No matter what you're having for supper, it can be enjoyed just as much outside. With the sun setting around dinnertime, it is a special experience to sit around the porch table with your family and unwind from a long day's work (or school.)

Tip: Bring an insect repellant candle to sit on your table. Not only will it keep your food bug-free, but it will smell yummy, too.

Game Night - In the evening times, many of the porches that are nestled in the front of Vintage Township homes are hushed. But ever so often, you will hear a few families laughing and shouting over a good game of Monopoly. With some candle- or porch-light, the outside atmosphere is not only intimate, but fun and collaborative, too!

Tip: Don't forget your paperweights. With a cool Texas breeze, you could watch your fake money fly right into the pockets of your opponent!

Recreational Reading - As hard working adults, reading is the easiest activity to put off until we have more time. But reading is also one of our favorite hobbies that we often wish we could do more of. Summer and weekends are the perfect times to dedicate to going through your reading wish list. Reading outside on a comfortable chair, couch or hammock can make is so much nicer.

Tip: Make some lemonade to quench your thirst. It's light and refreshing and will make your "porch reading" experience more indulging.

We invite you to come join us at Vintage Township. For information, visit www.vintagetownship.com or call 806-771-1117. If you do take a tour of our available homes in Lubbock Texas, feel free to sit on a porch and enjoy the Texas sunlight. While you're there, look out for neighbors walking and waving. They too, may be joining you one day on your very own Vintage porch.

Holidays – Even a little friendly competition like neighborhood Christmas lights contest can help build neighborhood relationships. Holidays are great ways to share fun and safe times together and more importantly, to share memories.
