Whistler is a busy place these days: in 2010 Vancouver will host the Winter Olympics and Whistler, a two-and-a-half hour drive from Vancouver along the Sea to Sky Highway, will be in the international spotlight. Among the competitions that will take place at Whistler are men's and women's downhill, Super-G, slalom, biathlon, cross-country, and ski jump. Hit the slopes now, so that you can watch the Olympic competitions with a knowing oh-I’ve-done-that look. With close to 40 lifts and 200 runs divided between two mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb, it’s no surprise that skiing and snowboarding is Whistler’s main draw, but there are plenty to do also for those who don’t care much for the white stuff. The town is small enough that you can walk everywhere and there are lots of great shops and galleries showcasing native art along the pedestrian-only Village Stroll, the town’s main street. Take the gondola to the top Whistler, 6000 feet above sea level, for an amazing view—and come the winter season 2008, shuttle between the two mountains on the Peak 2 Peak Gondola. Stay in style in Whistler vacation rentals. Enjoy!

Famous for being the first colony to turn its back on the tyrant King George of England, New Hampshire's rugged spirit continues to manifest itself to this day. Though one of the smallest states, it boasts a rich history, a storied landscape and adventures for every season. And the White Mountains play a large part in this.
Covering about a quarter of New Hampshire and a small portion of western Maine, The White Mountains are some of the oldest on the entire planet, with peaks that once reached higher than Everest. Its current peak - Mount Washington - stretches 6,288 feet into the heavens and is home to the fastest wind ever recorded in history - 231 mph. Alas, there is no need to fret – it was recorded back in 1934; and during the summer the drive to the summit is packed with cars vying to earn the bumper sticker, "This car climbed Mount Washington."
Ironically, the White Mountains are most famous for their fall colors. And one of the best places to see them is the White Mountains National Forest. The ranger station in Laconia has volumes of information on hikes, drives, fishing spots and scenic overlooks. Then, venture over to Franconia Notch State Park and gaze off into rushing waters of the awe inspiring Flume Gorge or grab a fishing pole for a peaceful afternoon at Echo Lake.
And if skiing suits one's fancy, there are more than 10 resorts in the Whites, but a word to the wise, watch out for Bode Miller, the brash downhill skier who so honorably represented the United States at the 2008 Winter Olympic Games. Seriously, don't make him mad.
If you have a White Mountain vacation property, please feel free to self-list it for free on Viscape. Or if you want to find a great property, go here.

There’s a lot of money running through Zurich. Not only is it the commercial and cultural center of Switzerland – and of home of the Swiss bank account – but it’s also home to the stock exchange and headquarters of countless large national and international companies. Often voted one of the highest ranked cities in the world when it comes to living standards, Zurich isn’t just well loved for it’s proclivity to entice money; it’s known for it’s cleanliness and natural beauty. Located on the scenic Lake Zurich relatively close to the Swiss Alps, Zurich is often the first stop visitors make in Switzerland and is frequently dubbed “the portal to the Alps.” And as the largest city in Switzerland – with a population nearing a million – Zurich boasts plenty of attractions worthy of its esteemed financial system.
Those hoping to take advantage of Zurich’s fantastic natural scenery should check out Lake Promenade which provides visitors with a lengthy board walk and plenty of space to stretch out and enjoy a picnic or a nap. Zurich is also home to ancient architecture on par with some of the best in Italy or France. Check out the Grossmünster, Zwingliplatz – an aging Romanesque church built in 1519 – or Fraumünster, Kämbelgasse – which features some exquisite stained glass window paintings from the renowned artist Marc Chagall. Of course, the winter months mean skiing, and Zurich – with its already mentioned proximity to the Alps – is a great base camp for the eager skier and snowboarder. Wanna get a great view of Zurich without having to scale the Alps? Well take a ride aboard the Polybahn – a 19th century funicular that takes visitors to an elevated point for a breathtaking 360 degree view of the city. And for the woman (or man) with taste for the finer things in life, shopping at the Bahnhofstrasse – famous for being one of the most exclusive and expensive shopping streets in the entire world – will satiate any shopping itch one might have. Several of us at Viscape are feeling itchy right now. ;)
