I know they're cute, and they can really look scrawny sometimes, but the State of Montana Fish and Game Department is warning that it's illegal to feed the deer!
Our hearts are softened by the curiosity and almost approachable wild animals we have around here. I would never have thought of feeding the deer (they eat enough of my landscaping as it is), but some folks feel the need to coach the animals into their yard so that they can enjoy watching them. We all know it's wrong and some just hope they don't get caught.
The Department of Fish and Game has some new power to ticket people, big time for doing this! Apparently, hunters also have a luring tactic to train deer over a period of time so that they know where to find them when bow or rifle season comes around.
Wild animals are best at protecting themselves when they are wild. It's also really not good sport to train an animal to come and then shoot them.
Some of our cities have such a deer problem that we have actually had to hire people to chase them away. No one wants to tangle with a deer on their way out to get the newspaper, really!
Heat Exchanger Extraordinaire! If you're building or upgrading your heating and air conditioning system, you really need to have a look at this system.
In the summer, the heat pump moves heat from inside your home, to outside. In the winter, the heat pump moves heat from the outdoors to the inside. I won't get into the mechanics, but trust me, this stuff works, really well!
In our climate, which gets really cold at times, the heat pumps do rely on a back up propane system because at a certain point, it's really hard to extract heat out of freezing air (although it can be done to a certain degree).
I just sold a really big home that used this system and the average electric bill, year round was $104. The propane usage included the hot water system, but was less than half of what a conventional propane forced air system would cost for a similar home. That's a lot of money saved, especially last year. Other benefits:
Just a note to pay some respect to a Montana Football Coach who, for the love of the game, coached a lot of Montana kids to work hard and play hard.
My husband (Raymond) Tracy Thomas was part of the Great Falls Bison 1973 championship football team coached by Gene Carlson and we plan to pay our respects at a graveside service this coming Saturday in Great Falls.
Gene was head coach of the Montana Grizzly Football Team 1976-79 and was a player for the Griz 1950 -52. More family members played for the Griz including grandsons of the Carlson's as well as my nephews Tyler and Torrey Thomas.
Gene was a Lt. Colonel in the Montana Army National Guard and retired after 24 years of service. Gene also served as the State Game Director for the Montana Special Olympics for a couple of years.
Helmets off to you Coach!
I'm really concerned that those who've taken advantage of the super low rates in the last few years won't tolerate anything much higher. Even I'm getting to where I say that 5.5% is high. How did this happen? I'm pretty middle aged and I thought a rate under 7.5% was just like getting money for free 10+ years ago!
Apparently the mortgage industry has a big competitor for money right now---the fed! Nothing we do to prop up the markets in our country is free! I think we've been charmed into the idea that there is a pot of gold around every corner, so don't worry, be happy!
If a home is in your future, or a move is in your future, price the home and mortgage rate with a little wiggle room so that you can get what you need, and some of what you want.
Will these rates last for years to come? Who knows?
Am I really the best judge? Maybe not, but it makes me happy to think I am.
I think I'm doing just fine, GET SMART!
